Mireilles3 chapter 1 . 8/29/2014
Wow! Just wow! Dick in training fic are so rare... And the parallels between the tests and the engineering ones were brilliant!

dick is smart, possibly smarter than Bruce - who needs to be more careful.
SapphireSecret chapter 1 . 1/21/2014
This is incredible! I am delighted that I found this. It's well written, intelligent, and the metaphor was wonderful. I didn't catch on to what you were doing there with the testing the alloy and Robin's training for a little while, but it is so clever. The idea of Batman being an engineer makes a lot of sense, and your explanation of Bruce Wayne being one before being a businessman before taking on the cowl was a smooth introduction that fit extremely well with the character. The lessons you had him teaching Dick seemed very intelligent and well thought out. Batman was so amusingly obtuse when it came to social and emotional things. I liked the hints of Dick's life at the circus. Over all, the characterizations were perfect, as was the dialogue, and this is definitely one for the favorites list.
Lolchen chapter 1 . 5/15/2010
I was kinda confused by the technical yadda yadda in between the story bits, but otherwise nice one-shot. Kinda sad mood, but nice ending.

Beautiful foreshadowing. I am a fan of all your work, but I appreciate this one especially. Truly excellent.
ClassicalBrunette chapter 1 . 7/10/2008
Awesome story! It was really well written from beginning to end and I love how the engineering component tied the whole thing together.

Will you write another one like this soon? Please?
ForestGlenny chapter 1 . 5/7/2008
I really enjoyed this story! I was curious to see how you were going to incorporate engineering terminology into a Batman story... and you did it quite beautifully! It just amused me, because I had my final for an engineering class yesterday and all of these terms were on there... and one of my classes does these sorts of tests all the time. So, anyway. Great story!
Rachel chapter 1 . 6/29/2006
I really enjoyed this story - your writing style is clear and direct, your characterizations are wonderful, and you manage to hit just the right emotional pitch, which is very hard to do when you're writing from Batman's point of view. I liked your attention to detail in the various tests and workouts, I enjoyed Dick's spontaneous gymnastics (his version of comfort food), I thought Alfred with his oblique diplomacy was perfect, and the rooftop conversation really brought the whole story together thematically. My favorite part was the matter-of-fact way Dick accepted the 'testing' concept as soon as he understood it, and the way Bruce recoiled from it as soon as he understood it. The exchange - "There are other kids." "They're not you." - really had impact for the reader as well as Batman. And Dick's "Okay. Now I know," seemed at once so young and so mature. Thanks so much for this story - I think it's very special.
Rosadina chapter 1 . 11/10/2005
People can only be pushed to a certain point Brucey. This was a wonderful story, I really liked how you portrayed Bruce. It's going in my c2.
