AB-maybecrazy chapter 4 . 12/9/2018

Gianna di Fiori chapter 4 . 2/3/2016
Okay, here we are, ten years after this story was written, and it still resonates! I watched the original series and caught the little flirtations between Don and Amita and thought it would lead to something, especially when months went by and there was no real Charlie/Amita romance. It would have been a really fun pairing, if for no other reason than the irony of Don escaping his genious brother and all that intelligence, to only find himself totally immersed in it if he fell truly hard for Amita!

I picture an alternate universe where Don/Amita continued and the brothers have a falling out, but, Don stays with Amita and Charlie refuses to consult with the FBI. Amita gets a new thesis advisor because of the strain. Alan is angry with Don for not thinking about Charlie's feelings and now their relationship becomes strained so the family is estranged from Don.

Then, 7 months later, the unthinkable happens - Don is working on a very serious case and he disappears! No one can find him, and, after a month, he is given up for dead. Amita is devastated and now must tell Alan that she is 12 weeks pregnant with Don's child. She had only learned of the pregnancy just before Don disappeared and they were both excited about just eloping when the case was done.

Now, Charlie is wracked with guilt when he learns of the situation. He feels like a fool for being jealous of his brother and for being angry at his brother's happiness. If he had been a better brother, he would have understood. All this time, he could have been continuing his consulting work and maybe Don would not have gone missing! If nothing else, he needs to find out what happened to Don so that his family, sweet Amita, and Don and Amita's child will have closure, as well as, justice.

Charlie begs to work with Don's old team and they finally relent, especially since the case has continued to grow increasingly serious and could become more deadly. It takes two more months, but, Charlie eventually sees the pattern and the FBI team gets the drop on the group of eco terrorists and arrests all 12 members.

They never meant to harm anyone, ever, and felt terrible for the friends and family of the poor guard who had a heart attack and died during their fifth big attack on a big agriculture facility. When they are told that they will be tried for the death of an FBI agent, but, things would go easier on them if they just told where Don's body could be found, the leader tells David Sinclair that they have never killed anyone! Don Eppes is still alive and has been kept as a prisoner at a small compound near Reno, Nevada. He suffered a head injury and the leader's father, a retired family practice doctor, had been caring for him because he did not want Don to die, but he did not want his son to go to prison, either. They were planning to release Don as soon as they had worked out their plan to hide out in Paraguay at the completion of their final raid.

Don was found, but, he was suffering from significant memory loss. For some reason, his most recent memory was Charlie's birthday surprise party from last year, and, Nothing after that!

When elated, 6 months pregnant (with twins!) Amita shows up at the hospital and hugs a stunned Don, and learns that Don has no clue about their relationship, she collapses and is admitted to the same hospital as Don.

There are serious complications for Amita. Alan and Charlie ralley around Amita while Don struggles to regain his memory of what happened before his injury. No one has told Don about his relationship with Amita, or that he will soon be a father (the head trauma specialists felt this would cause significant emotional distress and it would be better to let Don slowly imrove on his own).

Charlie is crushed at seeing sweet Amita suffering so much and does his best to cheer her up and let her know that she really was best as his very understanding friend, but, they would have never made it in a romantic relationship because their lives would have always centered around numbers, at the cost of all those around them. Don will get better and he will remember how much he loves her because, at the end of the day, Don has always enjoyed being a part of the world of numbers, even if he was not immersed in it like Charlie and Amita.

After two weeks of inpatient therapy, Don is released from the hospital, but, he cannot stay alone for at least 3 months so he is temporarily at Charlie's house, not aware of the fact that Amita had moved into their new, larger apartment while he was missing. He never regained his memory of his life with Amita and just assumed Amita is carrying Charlie's child. Poor Amita has been hospitalized since her collapse and is despondent over what will happen to her and her soon to be little family. Don does visit her but, always with Alan and Charlie, and, he just treats her with almost brotherly affection.

Three days before her due date, Amita goes into labor. The hospital tries to contact Charlie or Alan via cell phone, but are unable to reach them where they are stuck in a huge traffic jam in an area with poor cell service. Don gets the call on the landline at Charlie's house and tells them he will be there shortly and will continue to try his brother's cell phone.

As Don sits with a very frightened Amita, holding her hand and saying comforting words, his world suddenly goes into a spin! Suddenly, images of a black camisole appears in his mind. Then, he remembers the delicious taste of the best coffee ever, beautiful dark eyes only inches from his face, and, the smartest, most adorable woman he has ever known.

And, Don grabs Amita closely to his chest and cries into her ear "Oh, Amita, we are going to have our babies. I'm going to be a dad! I love you so much and I am so sorry I have not been here for you. But, I will be here for you, forever, through infinity."

Two hours later, Alan and Charlie show up at the hospital, just in time to join the crowd of well wishers, to meet little Charles Alan Eppes and Donna Margaret Eppes.

OKAY, SO I WENT A LITTLE OVERBOARD, BUT, THE STORY NEEDED AN ENDING AND THIS MADE FOR A FUN ALTERNATE UNTIL WE GET ONE?

Oh pretty please continue.
Ann Onymous chapter 4 . 10/10/2010
hey, man, you gonna finish this one or not? it's really cool. i like it a lot. come on, don't leave me hanging!
spnMom chapter 4 . 5/28/2009
Aw, this one isn't finished. That's why I tend not to read fics that aren't finished :-( At least you didn't leave Charlie hanging off a cliff... That kind of 'cliffie' is hard to take. Now, I will imagine an ending in my head. Charlie went off pouting and kicking himself for not declaring his intentions earlier and and Don & Amita call it off at the end of the date because they find out they have nothing in common but sex. Then, Charlie and Don have to work through their issues because Charlie really does have deeper feelings for Amita and he needs to put the idea of Amita and Don out of his head. OK, I feel better now. Thanks for posting.
spnMom chapter 1 . 5/28/2009
Yep, hot scene... but since I have watched every episode, I like Amita and Charlie... It would be cute if she just tried to see if she could get Don's attention to make sure all of her signals are firing correctly... Kind of a scientific experiment :-) Charlie is so oblivious, she might get a little frustrated.

Hello again!

Just wanted to let you know that the last review was accidentally posted and was not meant for this fic! I was reading numerous ‘numb3rs’ fanfics and reviewing each one and thus posted the last review by mistake! Please accept my apology and disregard the last review!

Hi there!

Just found your awesome story today! You definitely deserve a standing ovation for this masterpiece! It’s absolutely faultless! Although if you plan on writing a sequel, I'd love it if Don and Amita fall for one another after such an overwhelming ordeal!

Hi there!

Just wanted to let you how awesome your story is and ever since the show began I always thought Don and Amita were more suitable as a couple and way more chemistry as oppose to Charlie and Amita! Please reconsider finishing this masterpiece!

Charlie Winchester chapter 4 . 5/11/2006
Hi! I just started reading this story, and I absolutely fell in love with it. I never even thought about Don/Amita at all since I've only seen S2 of Numb3rs, but after finishing what you have so far, I am now pretty devoted D/A fan.

I've actually started a story with them, but I don't know if it's any good... I'm debating on whether to post it or not. Anyway... back to the review.

I really really love this story, and I can't wait for you to continue it. Other than a few spelling mistakes here and there, it's an AMAZING story. Please update soon!

I just started reading some of the Numb3rs fanfiction, though I have loved the show since the very beginning, and am really enjoying this one. Not exactly a pairing that you would expect but I am definatly excited to see where you are going with this story.

Great Work!
