Really enjoyed this. Very in keeping with Methos's voice and works well with how he interacted with Richie in the show, and adds something interesting to canon.

Amazing story. I don't think Methos is just being an asshole. It really IS more of a question just how much loss and hurt you can take. With mortals you know they will die sooner or later. (The characterization of teenagers and young immortals respectively was very much spot on, by the way.) Immortals however have the /potential/ to live forever or at least a lot longer. Loosing so many of them time and time and time again when it need not have happened would hurt so much worse in the long run. Technically, the ancient immortals have all lived through times where they might be nothing or little left from their youth. Other immortals would be a connection to something they hold familiar through these long stretches of time. Someone they would have a chance to for once really relate to, someone who /understands/ because of similar experiences they lived through. Loosing that early on and just so often is bound to hurt, only getting invested in the older ones would stave that high risk of loosing someone off for a bit. It's a bit the same reasoning why insurance companies ask higher fees of very young car owners, as they have a high risk of getting into accidents.

Certainly an interesting perspective, and these three seem true to character. Nicely done!

Ouch. This is good and offers an interesting perspective on all four of the main characters, not just Methos and Richie, but Mac and Joe as well. I find it interesting that Joe, who's more than half way through his life understands, if not necessarily agrees with Methos' point, while Mac, who's a relatively young immortal, refuses to even consider it. What it means to be old, is also about perspective. Very nice. Keep writing.
