If it's from Renji's point of view, I would expect him to never think of himself as "Abarai" and to think of Byakuya as "Kuchiki-taichou," not by his given name. Also, from the very beginning Byakuya consistently calls Renji "Renji," not "Abarai-kun."
When Renji enters the office, it's stated that Byakuya's on the floor behind his writing desk, but then it's stated that he joins Renji on the floor. I'm confused, because the second statement implies he was standing and there was no indication that he stood. I also don't see why Byakuya would realistically feel the need to kow-tow to give a thank you for anything to anyone, even for protecting his beloved sister. He might bow a little or maybe just incline his head, but I don't think anything justifies a positively servile position as he takes here.
Other than the kow-towing, I like the concept of using their professional closeness as an opportunity for character study.

Love it! The writing's great, and the story really has a good flow to it. Also, I'd say the OOC warning was unnecessary. Byakuya is always hard to characterize, but personally, I thought you did an excellent job of keeping everyone in character. I'm looking forwards to reading more of your stories! _
