You're a good writer and this story was good, except for the ending. You read the story with anticipation, wondering what the heck is the real reason Josh doesn't celebrate birthdays, and you never find out. Leaves a bad taste in the mouth.

The fact that you're a really good writer, your characterization is awesome, makes it even more disappointing.

This story drove me crazy that we never find out WHY he doesn't like his birthday. You were so devilishly good at keeping that secret. Great job. I liked the idea of Josh being fresh out of the shower when Donna comes to visit him.
