I don't know why I didn't leave a review the first time I read this, but reading it again...Wow. I love Jayne angst/etc., and this was fantastic. Scary, depressing, and anything else, but it was a brilliant, job well done. Damn good story!

I have always thought that Mal was just a bit too hard on our poor Jayne. There was a feeling there that he never saw Jayne as more than a beaten junk yard dog.

Which - you know. I agree with! But I believe junk yard dogs need respect/love too ;)

So I loved that Mal was the one to come through, to vindicate the loyalty Jayne has shown. I am, in general, not nessasarily a slash fan. No problem with slash - just I see /very/ few pairings that I believe have sufficent IC canon. If you choose to go that way with the story? I think you've done enough to build to it. But I think you've built even better to River/Jayne eventually.

In the end? I don't think a pairing is needed. That's not what I'm looking forward to seeing next. I'm looking forward to the crew seeing Jayne as more than they might have before.

I absolutely loved the first chapter of this story, it was so very filled with despair as Jayne realises that he can't take it, that he's gonna break. You just want to cry for him.

The whole thing is really well written.

I liked the whole River/Jayne thing at the end, just a little cameraderie for them, he'll come out of this with a bit of empathy for her I think.

MAGNIFICENT! What do you mean the ending sucked? It was beuatiful. Having someone there to help him without asking questions, making him talk about it etc...was exactly what I think RIVER needed (not all them shots from Simon) as well. THANK YOU for a very VERY different fanfic.

The last line, when Jayne says, 'Yours' now that was heart wrenching. Now we just need Kaylee, River and Mal to come in, guns blazing and screaming, 'Get AWAY from our MERCINARY you %$%%$%&$%!'

Kind of brutal, obviously, but it didn't feel gratuitous. It was necessary for the emotional impact of the story - Jayne is not a guy who would break easily. But you can't just leave poor Jayne there, right? I look forward to his rescue and recovery. I'm kind of hoping that this does not develop into a romance, as I think that might dilute the intensity of the story. Some friendship stuff would be wonderful, however.

I just saw Serenity (never seen FireFly). I love Jayne! Please write more!
