I really liked your story but i must say that i didn't appreciate what you implied about muslims and islam being a muslim my self. The people that you are talking about are just some extremists and they portray a flase image of what islam is really about. Besides, islam is not the only religion that has extemists.
Also about polygamy in islam, originally it was about spreading the new religion because there was little followers in the beginning but it was possible only on some conditions. For example, the husband must be able to treat all his wives equally and love them equally (which is practically impossible) plus he can't just come home one day with another wife and impose her on his first one. The wife or wives must accept to share their husband or he can't have another one. As for what you talked about as muslims men having the right to as many concubines as they like that's not true far from it really. Adultery is one of the biggest sins known in islam, he can only have sex with his wife for his entire life and it's the same for women, they can only have sex with their husband.
And finally about the domestic violence, it's more about bigotery and sexism than about islam. Arabian people are not known for their high regards of women and unfortunately it stayed even after islam and the teachings of the prophet who held so much respect for women. Sadly they wrongly employ islam to justify their actions. It's just disgusting really.
I for one come from a north african country where there is no such thing as polygamy, it's prohibited and i'm more than fine with that.
I hope that you understand what i'm doing here, i'm not defending the people that you were talking about but i don't want you to generalise that's all.
