I suspect that he believed in the war and that the bloodshed was unpleasant but necessary to spread the ideas of the Fire Nation. It makes more sense for his son's death to make him realize that it's not worth it and that the enemies are real people than for him to suddenly decide that his cause itself is wrong. Alternatively, what he could have realized is that what he was fighting for was different from the goals of his nation and from what his enemies are fighting against.

short..sweet...pleasant. that's the chapters in your story. They are all well done.

I was slipping through these again, and realized, no, -this- is my absolute favorite piece of ficcing ever written. Though it debated hard with Sutra 8, because I love the idea that the collective Avatar has to be a bastard. Because he's infinite, and therefore all things. It's mathematics.

But anyway, 10 had to win. My love for Mai and Zuko cast entirely aside, this image gives me difficulty breathing. It is asthma, with words. And dark rafters. And the world's most easily despisable people hanging around underneath it. This is exactly what I always wanted out of these characters, and the exact things I found connection to in them. And you just have a monumental way of turning a phrase.

I need to go write some truly awful Thief the Dark Project fanfiction now.

Some really good drabbles. I like the Mai/Zuko one as I had to re-read it to make certain I had read it correctly. I value subtlety. Vinaya is powerful in an entirely different manner. Good work.
