(I am choosing to believe Ozai did not learn to bend lightning unti after he was already Fire Lord, and that's why he's so peeved by Azula's early success. Heck, maybe he didn't perfect the technique until after Azula left on her mission! It can still fit in with his attack on Zuko in Day of Black Sun. :)

Wow, I really liked this story. I'm not sure why though, you must be magic :D Something about the way you portrayed the characters felt so... right. It was gorgeous. I especially liked the bit at the end with Mai's pleasure/hate emotion. Though I'm very sure Ozai does know how to create lightning, we saw him do it twice in the series. Perhaps he mastered it later than Azula? At any rate, nicely done.

This is far and away the best Ty Lee/Mai/Azula friendship history fic I've read. I'm reviewing now only after reading it for the third time. It's incredible and has haunted the way I feel about the three of them, and basically ruined me for anyone else's point of view (including my own!). It - wow. You're a genius.

This is fascinating. I've always wanted to learn more about those three.

What I like most about this story is that you acknowledge that for all of Mai's uneasiness about her friendship with Azula she does get something out of it and does enjoy it to a degree. It's good that you portray Mai's mixed feelings on the matter rather than having Mai being a total Azula-hater like many fics do, which is just too simplistic an explanation for such a complication relationship. Bravo!

Your Azula is absolutely diabolical, but in the best way possible. It's in how she uses her secrets to control people instead of letting them render her vulnerable. In a way, I felt like she managed to pull both Ty Lee and Mai into the same game they were trying to avoid or transcend all along.

Not to gloss over your Mai, by any means. I liked that both who she was and how she related to Azula ended up shaping the person she became by the end of the fic-bending to an influence but not entirely controlled. Thanks for writing this!
