Reviews for The Lie I've Lived
Guest chapter 24 . 7/17
No sequel? :)
JaehaerysTargaryen chapter 17 . 7/17
I really cracked up at Harry's Dragon task. How the fuck did this idea even pop into your head? God, that's hilarious. Albus deducting the point for being off key cracks me up. The banter in this story is hilarious and is definitely the strongest quality of the prose.
Very interesting healing techniques, always fun to read more magical methodology.
Joseph Mcallum chapter 1 . 7/17

greenking13 chapter 24 . 7/3
(Massive Spoiler Warning: If you're a reader considering this story, just read it, it's good. Yes it doesn't have a sequel, but the ending is actually a lot more stand-alone than it would first appear and it does finish the tournament.)
While it's extremely unlikely to be read by the author, I will leave a review for others.

This story is quite good. The hat is a touch I've not seen other authors use as a focus besides being a magically mind-reader or glorified storage compartment. I think I remember one where the hat is actually the soul of some demon or other, but it was a minor tidbit for that fanfic rather than a major plot point. Admittedly the hat is incredibly crude and seems to be perpetually fixated on sex. Also, did Harry just casually make it a body to use? Considering it's words... I am a bit more than worried for the students. Or maybe what I'm thinking would never come to pass since it's not human as it says.

Onto Harry himself. Or HJ I guess. The premise of using James' memories as a power boost is a neat plot point that I think I've seen used before, but not to the depth of this story. It is certainly interesting, and I am more that casually interested in how Lily linked Harry and James together, since that's what the vision of Lily seems to be implying. Honestly though, it feels like this is just James' 2.0 with Harry's power and a dashing of his mind. The starting was absolutely brilliant in how he just believes he's fallen off the deep end.

The ending... I want to say it left a lot to be desired with the death of not only Remus, but also Dumbledore, but it surprisingly didn't. We, the reader, can see how Harry is going to go after Death Eaters and his own style of "preventative" action, although I'm unsure of how he will go about horcrux hunting without knowing about them. If that was even a premise in this story, since it seems to have been started just around Deathly Hallows release.

If you ever do make a sequel, I'd be pleased as punch, but honestly, you did an amazing job and I can safely recommend this story as being one of the few stories that while it isn't completed, has a satisfying ending to it.

I hope you have a great life and are safe in these times,
Green
Danielle chapter 5 . 6/29
"This isn't right. Katie is a 'good girl' and not a slag to be used by the likes of me."

"She squirms for a minute and then settles down."

"It occurs to me that Penelope is quite attractive, though the idea of Percy's sloppy seconds doesn't really appeal to me."

When you go back to read old fics and discover that Jbern is a mysogynystic proto-incel.
Simianpower chapter 20 . 6/26
It's a bummer that "There will be a sequel" never wound up happening.
Simianpower chapter 12 . 6/25
I do love this story. This is maybe my third read-through. But I did notice something this time that I didn't before: Harry doesn't speak AT ALL like a 14-year-old. That alone isn't a huge problem, because in this case he's NOT a 14-year-old. The problem is that nobody notices. Everyone notices the difference in his power, his spellcasting, etc., but even professional educators with decades of experience being around teens of all ages for 8 months a year haven't yet noticed that he now speaks like an adult? That's the problem. Granted, it's no worse than the negligence and neglect Rowling showed in the adults, but it stands out since other things are being noticed and this should as well.
chuysaurus chapter 4 . 6/12
have read this a couple of times and I always love the grosse point blank reference:

you can't go home again, but I guess you can shop there. lol...
JaehaerysTargaryen chapter 5 . 6/12
The sorting hat wins best supporting role in a comedy.
JaehaerysTargaryen chapter 3 . 6/11
Lily sleeping with Remus?! don't think that's very important for the plot mate xD
JaehaerysTargaryen chapter 2 . 6/11
hahaha love the sorting hat spewing such filth. confused about harry and James honestly
StoopidEngineer chapter 24 . 6/7
Even after having read (and re-read) your D List series, I still like to come back and read your fanfic on occasion.

Maybe it's because this was the type of Harry I wanted to read as I got older, but I've always found your stuff to be some of the most enjoyable and fun stories. Would still like to read the sequel to this some day, even if this is complete and a great standalone story.

Thanks for writing Jim!
Guest chapter 24 . 6/3
Wow. I only just now got around to reading this since the premise seemed a little far fetched to me and I am so glad I was wrong. Well written, well planned, and absolutely devastating in the lows. I can’t wait to read the sequel. The teaser at the end was absolutely phenomenal.
