This is absolutely freaking adorable. The dynamic between John and Sam is too cute and a real foreshadowing of their later fights. I’m fed up with seeing a neglectful John in stories where he just drinks and has very little emotion. This really showed the potential in John’s character and also the fact that he’s still a dad no matter what.

While I whole heartedly agree that John didn't have the ...healthiest... of parenting styles, everything he did was from a position of love. This so perfectly captured that! And you painted our boys so perfectly, you can see the men they're going to grow into. Absolutely perfect. Thank you so much for sharing this!

Haha, this was adorable! I actually teared up, not when it was talking about the mom dying (or maybe I did then too, I can't remember) but when Sam said "Daddy have Sammy's ice cream. Ice cream makes me happy. Daddy happy."

This actually had me crying my eyes out. At first I was sad because I felt so bad for poor little Sammy, who was probably just tired and crying was making everything that much worse and nobody was picking him up and I was just like "Aww the poor thing, even if he kinda deserves it he's just so young" (and I guess that's the mother hen in me). And then him saying sorry and reminding John of Mary - I swear it's almost like it hit me as hard as it must have hit him. And then the way he told his father that the thing that made him happy was his brother... Gah! So heart-wrenchingly beautiful! Like, the kid's not even two, yet, but he loves his brother with all his heart. Well, no, he saved a bit for John and berry ice cream.

Ok far warning. I dnt usually swear but holy fucking god was that not one of the GREATEST lil Sammy and John one-shots I have ever read, I think it's the only one, usually it's Dean doing all the calming down and I'm sooooo sick of them. So great job, even got me to shed tears. Bloody LOVED it. :D
