Gioia chapter 1 . 11/24/2011 One reason I have always loved your stories is because of how much of human emotion you infuse into them. You break my heart sometimes. But your stories always seem to have a healing touch of their own, which makes it all so very worthwhile. I also love how much you understand what it means to live with pain, sickness and infirmity. A lifetime with even one of those three wretched demons is very difficult. But I think that, in many ways, a lifetime of loving someone who suffers from pain, sickness and/or infirmity is just as difficult, if not far more torturous. You captured so much of that here in Gwynn's perspective. One thing I particularly liked was the disparity between what Cedric sees as pragmatism (he doesn't expect any cure to work; he doesn't think on it any more than he has to; he just gets on with his life) and what Gwynn sees as resignation ("Really, there's acceptance and then there's passivity."). WOW is that ever spot on in describing a key element in the relationship between the patient and their loved ones. I know you wrote this years ago, but please accept my belated kudos, Min, for this lovely story. Thank you! |
