Well it had a good start, then goes to the crap bin with the draco is my friend, not that Ron make any difeference.

I'm not sure where you're up to in your overhaul, but I feel like Draco and Pansy really need more screen time for both their story arcs to work properly. Pansy's 'join my family' plot point seems to come out of nowhere, and what could be a really powerful emotive moment instead just left me scratching my head. It made Pansy seem petulant and childish, because I'd not been given the time to empathise with her own loss.

Additionally, Draco just drops of the face of the earth until he shows up to die? Seems like such a wasted opportunity for drama; and it's not like Harry is really busy doing anything else during that time, having left all his classes.

Ultimately I feel you're not making the most out of your own plot which is a pity because the actually plot points are quite clever.

That out of the way, I think your pacing and prose are really high quality and in the moments were you do allow for it, the characterisation is strong as well. It speaks to the strength of your style that I was able to read a story written in first-person when it's almost always a hard pass for me.

was gona try reading this after I saw it mentioned by muggledad in his partners fic but then thought better of getting interested in a fic that hasn't been updated for 8 years

Yes, Harry, you have. You've gone and become super smart with zero effort. It really is not fair. I dare say I've met some smart people in my life, like International Mathematical Olympiad winners, or students of top universities in my country. I've never met anyone who could learn 4 years worth of school material in several days. I've never met anyone with photographic memory, it must be really rare if it exists at all.
And it's not like Harry NEEDS it. He has Hermione for a walking encyclopedia already. The difference between a Mary Sue and a simply powerful hero is that in a powerful hero still meets challenges to match his skills, because his adversaries become proportionally smarter/more powerful, or his life becomes proportionally harder; and he usually either has to work to become powerful, (like in The Weapon!Revised) or his newfound strength comes with drawbacks (like in HPMOR). Mary Sue gets new skills with no other purpose than to rub in everyone's face how much better she is than everyone else. I just can't imagine what kind of challenges would justify making Harry BOTH magically powerful and a know-it-all.

Hermione lying about her origin is so not-Hermione. People will find out and her reputation will be ruined both with purebloods and with muggleborns. It is a stupid and cowardly thing to do. The deception could hold out if Hermione never stood out and made enemies who would dig out her true origin, but can you imagine Hermione never making anyone envious?
