Wow, you've made me speechless. But I'll try to formulate a review of some sort. This is exactly what I've been looking for as of late in the House section here. Poetic, sad and angsty, but filled with some hope, this piece is beautiful. It's short, but you manage to say so much. That fourth paragraph in particular is just killer.

"When he was so guarding and fearful of his deep, inner desperation for some meaningful connection to the world he would bite and snark to those within ten miles of him, effectively shutting out anyone who could poke at this weakness with a sharp stick." Seriously, watch my jaw drop. You've captured the essence of House's character, paradoxes and all.

Bringing in the Rolling Stones' reference is brilliant, I think. It's very House, both the character and the show. And it's the perfect way to end the piece. Just wonderful. I'm so grateful that you skipped the sleep to write this. :-) Great job.

This was so nice, and I wish you could send it to David Shore and Katie Jacobs saying, "See? Now this wouldn't be so hard, would it?" Or, perhaps they already have, and due to the Writers' Strike, we'll have to until 2098 to actually see that particular episode.

Also, loved the working in of the Rolling Stones song at the end - it's totally the Huddy theme song!
