This is incredible. It's seldom that you find a redeemed Dudley. Normally he's the Roald Dahl-esque caricature that Rowling made him.

HOLY Mother of God! Well done. At least, he did save Harry's life. The parents did not so far succeed in turning him into the sociopaths they were, thanks be to Dudly being out of their influence and around others with good morals 10 months out of the year. I would hope Dudly would have a better life, in future.

hey. i know this story has been published for well over a decade, and doubtless you don't read the comments on this thing anymore, but... thanks. when i was in a similar situation as harry (though nowhere near as bad) i spent a lot of time wishing that someone, anyone outside my home would realize how much i was hurting, that even if they couldn't do anything they could at least acknowledge that i was suffering. outside of paid therapists, and friends who also had poor home lives and disregarded my own narrative in favor of their own, no one ever did. so, reading this story about someone (an past abuser, even!) realizing the truth and doing something about it instead of just ignoring things that they don't like... well, even though it's entirely fictional, it means a lot to me. to have my childhood self's deepest, aching wants put into words. so... from the bottom of my heart, thank you.

You know how there are some stories that just stay with you? I first read this fic probably nearly a decade ago, and I’ve remembered it all that time. I’m just now having a bit of a Harry Potter Renaissance, and this was the first fic I had to read as I got back into the fandom. I know this was written 12 years ago so you probably won’t see this review, but I just wanted to let you know how big of an impact this story had on me. Thank you for writing it.

This is one of my favorite fics. I don’t say that lightly either. I mean...I joined this site when I was a mere 13 years old and I’m 26 now, moved onto different fandoms and different websites. But I keep this account because I have a couple of old favorites from back in the day. I will read them too, just like I did just now for this story. Years and years later I’m still coming back to this.
The basics: well obviously your characterization of what a realistic situation this could have been hadn’t HP been meant for children. That’s what drew to me to the story then and brings me back now.
Idk if you still check this account, most of them are abandoned like mine. But, wherever you are, whatever you’re doing in life, I hope you are well and great. I hope you’re still writing pieces as magnificent as this.

I enjoyed seeing Dudley finally getting a clue, after all the years he participated in the abuse. It was horrific the way Vernon escalated to the point of nearly killing Harry. Great job!
