Wow. Loved it. Those kind of raw emotions we never got to see from Kathryn but after achieving her goal, I totally buy her being overwhelmed and yes, even plagued by guilt in her hour of triumph. And if it took her almost unraveling to make Chakotay see the light - even better. ;-)

You know, I've read this twice today and my opinion has not changed at all: this should have been the ending to Endgame. the pure, raw emotion in this is absolutely incredible and is some of the best I've ever seen written for KJ. Her guilt has plagued her for years, and for her to face it and finally resolve it is fitting for her.

Also, her and Chakotay finally letting each other in was perfect (why oh why couldn't we have a scene like this in Endgame?) and spoke of the deep bond that they forged in those seven years.

The writing is fantastic; you paint such vivid pictures and your descriptions are lovely. And the voices, the characters' voices are just right :)

I love the ending, Kj acknowledging that the dead are still there, but that they are letting her go on as something more than Captain. And now she is free to be something other than a Captain to Chakotay.

Marvellous, absolutely wonderful :)

This is one of those stories that really makes you see what kind of emotions Kathryn's going through. This story is really great because you didn't go OOC at all, and the ending is open to interpretation.

THIS is a terrific line and I can really hear Chakotay reminding her of this perspective:

“The dead held you in just as high a regard as the living. Don’t you ever doubt that.”

AND another strong point:

“Diane Carey married a Starfleet officer.

AGAIN you highlight one awesome strength of the Captain's:

And you’ve taught each and every one of us what it truly means to be a Starfleet officer.

AND what a wonderful line, says it all without having to use all the words:

“I’m here, and I’m not leaving.”

AND a wonderful resolution:

She wasn’t naïve enough to believe that she’d managed to rid herself of her demons just because they were home, but she could feel the Captain gently stepping aside to make more room for Kathryn,

You do such a wonderful job of exposing the emotions and maintaining the characters! Delightful to read.

What a wonderful way to bring up the fact that people died... she would have to deal with that eventually!
