This is such a great read! I love your demonstration of the different perspectives and nuance of these characters. They are on the same side, yet have different approaches and values. Your characterizations are so believable and engrossing. I especially adore the chapter with James and Kingsley. It was so clever and entertaining, and yet hit some serious notes, with Kingsley struggling with ethical dilemmas. I loved the way he and James interacted. Their banter is the best. It was oddly gratifying when Kingsley demonstrated his deductive prowess (werewolf friend, etc), leaving James uncharacteristicly speechless.
I stumbled upon this fic via another writer's "Favorite Stories" list. I'm hoping you've written more about the First Order of the Phoenix, and especially the Mauraders' part in it- it's been difficult to find. In any case, I'm certainly thankful for this piece!

A lovely look at Kingsley, fleshing out the one-dimensional character we see in the books. Definitely brings him (and James) to life.
Though it does illustrate the problem with the wizarding world's government; you have the 'bad cops' getting their friends out of jail/punishment and the 'good cops'... getting their friends out of jail/punishment.

Touching, and very much in character. A lovely bit of history.

These are excellent. I really like the universe you've created here and in Fool, which is darker than the original source material but still easily feels like it could be a prequel to HP.
Amelia is exactly how I imagined her in canon, James getting arrested all the time is a brilliant idea that incorporates that little prequel JK wrote, and for the record, I think you nailed the Dirk Cresswell piece. All that struggle paid off.
