Seeing how hard Katara had to try to eat used to Zuko, I bet she had a harder time getting used to seeing Mai as anything other than an enemy. Great job with this one shot, really showed a new side to both characters.

"The Fire Nation will always be her enemy." Katara is many things. She is not, however, forgiving. At all.

Weird, weird friendship. I can actually see this happening around the epilogue. (You know, the one with all the fancy clothes and Iroh's tea shop.)

I think you captured this very well... what strikes me is what is more UNTOLD than TOLD, you know? I like how Mai picks up the fact that Katara is nicer to her when she's wearing Earth Kingdom colors. :D

This story was very nice and beautiful actually.

It was in character, explored things that canon didn't show us, and it felt really artistic at the same time.(If that makes sense.)

I read this awhile ago, but forgot to leave a review.

I thought this was an excellent little story, with a nice alternative to all those extra-happy endings where Mai loosens up and becomes best buddies with the Aang Gang. The writing perfectly captures her snark and attitude, as well as the softer side she tends to naturally hide. Katara's instinctual discomfort, similar to her daddy issues in that her heart is in conflict with her head, was another nice touch.

And the last line was funny.

wow, i've never read a katara mai story where they weren't fighting over zuko. this was really good and I really think you pegged mai's character. Do you have any more of these shuriken stories up your sleeves?
