Well, actually, in the UK things weren't quite as 'swinging' in the 70s as, say, in the States. I'm taking a Modern Culture module in my degree, and actually things weren't anywhere near as wild as in the 70s as they are now. In fact, it was still far more usual to be a virgin until one's wedding night than not. And when an unmarried man and woman lived togther, it was considered quite scandalous. I spoke to my mum and auntie (who both grew up in the UK in the 70s) about this, and they both agreed that whilst it wasn't exactly unheard of for teenagers to be sexually active, it certainly wasn't common. Also, most of the becoming-sexual-active in ones teens happened in the working class rather more than in the middle class. All in all, the UK was a lot more conservative in the 70s that the US.

So with Lily and James both being seventeen/eighteen when they get together, it is very likely that they were both each other's firsts. Especially Lily, who was a middle class girl. *Especially* if you take into account how JKR portrays things in the HPverse; it's definite that each of the trio are all virgins into their final year, and Ginny probably is too. I know it is a family book, so JKR can't exactly show otherwise, but still, this is a fairly safe assumption to make.

Things *might* be different with James, because as ever, being sexually active was considered important to guys back then as well. But midlle-class girls were probably a lot more hesitant to having sex. Again, that's not to say that it never happened - just that it happened less likely. And if it did, it was probably in a relationship... so this 'sex buddies' situation isn't at all realistic.

Usually I don't mind reading things differently in fanfiction, because most people base it on their own standards and memoried of high school... which is a lot more recent seeing as the main age of fanfic writers is so much younger. But if you're trying to argue that this is the way it actually happened, I'm afraid to say you are incorrect.

Not that I don't enjoy your stories - I do. Even this so far I've enjoyed very much. But I just thought I should point it out.

Man.. Definitely liked the first ending better. Of course, the second IS more pleasing, but the first one really tugged at my heartstrings. I thought that this story was very well-written, and I can't wait to read more of your stories! :)
