Actually, when I read this I wondered - actually thought for days and weeks about it - why Lyra did not go with Will anyway. After all, they said that it WAS possible to learn how to travel between worlds, even if it took a life-time. And if not, why not pick short happiness over long-time suffering? I think I would have gone with Will anyway, whether I could have learned to travel or not ... :)

I was so heart broken when I finished reading the trilogy seven years back. Will and Lyra will always be one of my most favourite couples, ever. I keep wondering about what would have happened if either of them had chosen to stay back in the other's world. And yup, your story WAS sad, but we all knew what was coming, didn't we?
