I LOVED this! So powerfully written, with such a way with words! And so thoughtful! I loved how you showed that Arthur had to learn so much to be a prince - your phrases are top notch. "Iron fist in a velvet glove" for example!

I think one of my favorite parts, though, is Merlin getting all huffy at Arthur not thinking he could be evil. Such a different take to the stories that always have Arthur convinced that Merlin IS evil.

Merlin was the one gaping now.

"This whole anti-magic thing," continued Arthur. "It's my father's battle, not mine. And you're not evil. You're not."

"I could be evil," Merlin protested, sounding deeply offended.

"No," said Arthur. "You really couldn't."

"You're right," said Merlin. "I'm not nearly enough of a prat. You, on the other hand…"

I like how Merlin gets offended. The transition from deep analysis of their entire relationship to banter is great!

lol That's awesome. And so true.

I really, really like how this ends. Especially, 'he was holding back when he could so easily take the upper hand. He wondered if this is what Merlin felt like, all the time – having a weapon and choosing not to use it.' That's, like, deep. lol and stuff.

I sort of love all (or at least most) fics that deal with how Arthur finally discovers Merlin's magic and how he reacts. Bloody show should have had a scene something like this ages ago. :P

I really enjoyed that. I was well written and your characterization as spot on!
