The first words that left my mouth after reading the last line of the first chapter were, "Good writing. FINALLY."
I cannot relay how often the same scenario occurs: there is always a moment of naive hope, bordering on childish optimism, that and its writers will allow me a night of pleasant reading with the taste of fresh tea on my tongue. Of course, this optimism fades by the second or third story, all of which are riddled in grammatical errors, poor representations of characters (or simply a blatant lack of understanding of how they were meant to be portrayed) in order to serve their plot purposes, and simply an infantile view on how humans naturally communicate. By the end of the day, the tea tastes bitter and I'm far too tired to bother ruining my respect for writers for the next hour.
Your story is refreshing. Your portrayal of Jim is finally accurate and pleasantly familiar. Most writings of James Kirk have been childish, as if the man is moping about like a teenage school girl who's holding a secret and is loathe to share it because... well, because she doesn't want to share it. Even with Bones not present, I can already feel his personality bleed through Kirk's expectation of him, which is, again, a refreshing amount of natural complexity that no one seems to add in their stories. Spock, Uhura, and the rest of the crew already feel dynamic, and they haven't even spoken more than several sentences. "Cliche" is wont to be used in a negative context, but here I use it more for endearment. I enjoy the familiarity with a twist of SKILL. And skill is so rarely found here.
I'm excited to find what you hold in store.

Fan-bloody-tastic! I love reading stories on this theme and yours is one of the best. You really know most of your characters, the original bunch and those of your own creation, and you get them moving very effectively. You use humour very effectively yet have enough talent to keep it in check, which is much appreciated.
Sort out some of the crappy spelling and it's a keeper!

Wonderful story. I absolutely love your extra characters, they brought a smile to my face. I was like hey those remind me of Leverage ... Supernatural ... Stargate ... Firefly ...etc. I pictured each of mentioned characters and was just grinning the whole time. It would be epic if even one of them wound up on the Enterprise.

Love love this story tho9ugh chapters 3 and 4 seemed a tad unnecessary to the story. Still great!
