I am reading this belatedly but wanted you to know it's an adorable story. Especially liked, "As the alligators close in on me, I just pray to God they don't bite."

I'd have enjoyed more on Eric here, not necessarily his POV but more backstory, I think, but I figure you had a word count to abide by here in order to make the challenge.
