Ill-Fated-Wish chapter 1 . 4/9
Wow! This was so soft and tender ; ;
I thought it was just perfect how u balanced the usually canon-feels with this more soft stuff. I also really liked this cause I related to Light’s imaginary presence to not feel alone. i also had that too since I was little. In my case it hasn’t gone away in years but it’s fine. Thank you for this lovely fic!

I don't even know how to explain it, but I want to thank you. Thank you for this. You have no idea what this story means to me. I've read so many stories that have just broken me and destroyed my spirit, but I couldn't stop reading because I needed their relationship. I couldn't live without it. This probably comes across as a weirdly emotional rant or something, but I just want you to know, I appreciate you so much. Thank you

I am going to start backwards and say I'm relieved at that ending, just because it would've been the icing on the cake if Light went back to being Kira after that emotion-fest. :D Secondly, you've done an amazing job portraying the emotions in this fic, from a Light who is lonely but doesn't quite grasp true emptiness to the Light who does to the Light who finds something to fill that void and so isn't so lonely anymore (and of course L and his social clumisness coming into play in the second half as well...). This was a gorgeous piece all round, well-deserving of the TvTropes rec (which is how I found the fic). Well done and thanks for writing!
imperfectatbest chapter 1 . 6/8/2018
God, I know this is months and months and years old—but it makes me feel too much to let it go, so here we are.

When I'm reading this, it's impossible not to feel okay. There are flaws, yes, but the characters, the dialogue, the descriptions, everything—it's just so soft; a little bit dream like. I loved, more than I can reasonably say without turning this into a sonnet, everything about this.

The world feels gentle and watery, and more than a little bit sad, too. I adored Light's characterization in this, how small he feels, as the protagonist. He isn't cruel, or bloodthirsty in any way, even when in full control of the death note; he's just a little bit wanting in terms of control over something, anything to make him feel like he's making an impact; and he's a lot broken, too.

The way you wrote his pain in what he experienced, and his own self-hatred that stemmed from it, was blisteringly realistic, and L's reactions and dialogue to it was in equal parts soft and painful, and I could never ask for anything better written.

I've been reading stories for far too long not to notice when a works dialogue feels even a little more stiff than usual, or even awkward, as is regrettably the case in many stories.

I'm more than slightly delighted to say this work ticks the box for absolutely none of those.

I can't even fully explain how much it feels like you're floating on a cloud when you read this listening to classical pieces. I listened to Anthony Greninger's A Heavy Heart, Ludovico Einaudi's Primaver, Thomas Newman's Any Other Name, Anthony Greninger's Dreamer, and Ludovico Einaudi's Una Mattina, in order, and, cherubs help me, it was a little bit more than fantastical.

I loved, maybe more than I should have, how simple, how delicate the world you crafted felt to me. There wasn't any complicated back, forth, back, forth, of mind games between Light and L, just something undeniably sugar sweet and soft. The characters were hurting, but they were hurting together.

They were okay.

In a fandom—not to mention source material—brimming with death and cruelty, you managed to bypass it altogether, and that's really, really precious to me.

A more minor aspect, something you probably didn't even notice, that I feel like this piece wouldn't have been the same without was that fact that no matter how important they were in the manga or anime, the background characters seemed to just bleed like ink off damp paper.

They were mentioned, certainly, but rather than holding any kind of significance, they rather faded away from it all. Like a person in a dream that slips through your fingertips when you wake, and you can't quite seem to remember their face, just a fuzzy outline at the very most, or maybe how their laugh sounded in the air of the dream around you.

I love that so verymuch because, in my mind, it undeniably matches Light's world, and exactly how he perceives the people that inhabit it. He likes Ryuk's company, yes, but it pales so totally and completely when L comes into his life that it just simply isn't mentioned again; I mean, Misa, who's his love interest in the source material, doesn't begin to exist to the reader until half way through—she doesn't even speak.

I'm more than a little enamored with this, if you couldn't tell.

I think some of the final lines sums up this stories feeling—and my own feelings, during and after I read this work—better and certainly more concisely than I ever could: "They are not perfect people; they argue and L sulks and Light pouts and it is overall a tumultuous existence. But mostly, it is soft and nice and most of all, it is safe."

I'm afraid I could wax poetic about this story for much longer than my due time, but I won't bore you with that; I have only two words encapsulating my love for this story, so if it may please you, I'll leave it at this:

Thank you.

Great story, so many emotions. I don't think it needs a sequel, the ending was very well done.
