This is so beautiful. I have read alot of stories about Elrond and Aragorn, but this is the best. It is like you were writing what is in my mind, but I would never be able to write in such ingenuity since English isn't my native language. I like that everyone is in character and I think this is how Estel came to call Elrond "Ada", too. Elrond's words about his love to Aragorn and how he is remembering Maglor are so touching.

This was a beautiful vignette! I've never heard the relationship between Elrond and Estel described better. And the mention of Maglor and the Sons of Fëanor has me wanting to reread the Silmarillion.

This is just absolutely beautiful. Elrond's profound wisdom and gentle words really help me make sense of his relationship with Estel, and the boy's quiet vulnerability is well put-across. This is the second time I've seen Elrond's deep respect for Maglor in your writing, and his love for the son of Fëanor is beautifully put-across. I believe you are one of the only writers here that can express such inexplicable family ties and filial love.

It is moreover interesting to compare different writers' interpretations of the relationship between Elrond and his own foster-father. Another story, 'Rift', by user Acharion, takes largely the same route with regards to initial distrust, but changes up small details when it comes to location, involvement of Maglor and Maedhros, &c. Part of the fun of Silmarillion fanfiction is that not much detail is given to the specifics of the happenings — the story is laid out as though it were in a history textbook. Speaking of which, I look forward to the piece in the First Age you've been hinting at!

Absolutely lovely. The inclusion of the story of Maglor is perfect. Maglor and Maedhros are some of my favorites from the Silmarillion. It's great to read about them here.

Gotta love elrond and his love for the boy

I think it's high time to post this review as I have just re-read this story. And I do re-read it from time to time, and it never fails to bring tears to my eyes: you have captured and and unfolded carefully something so precious and great and significant that I feel both humbled and inspired by its vibrant mightiness. And I honestly don't recall a story on love (non-romantic, I mean), which would have moved me so deeply with sheer wording and emotion behind the phrases: there is no action, there is no event as such, and yet... and yet...

Young Estel is a marvel, and it's amazing how true and deep his feelings run at his young age already. Maybe, it's also the reason why his aching insecurity invokes so much sympathy in me. And Elrond... no, words fail me: his sensitivity, patience and tenderness are beyond comments as well as beyond measure. And I find it realistic and believable he finds a special consolation in his foster child (which *by no means* undermines the joy his own children bring to him).

...It's wonderful they have each other.

Elrond is so wise...

I know that's his thing, no surprise - but he just pays attention and takes things slow and says exactly the right thing, then takes the kid for a walk. If only it was always that easy (no kids of my own, but I'm assured it's not :-P). Then again, as Estel has no other kids around he probably tends to act more adult...
