Ahh, this is so good! You captured the beautiful bittersweetness of outgrowing things you once loved and the feeling of being left behind perfectly. The little details here and there too, like 'licking the salt off her cracked lips', they're just so perfect. I love the little hints of the movie's events scattered here and there, the train, the dragon, the shoes, the paper birds...it makes me all nostalgic. (Man, I never did like Chihiro's mother very much, and throwing out her sandals seems like exactly the kind of thing she'd do.) I almost got a sort of Peter Pan and Wendy vibe from this, especially with the ending. Amazing work!

I've been binge reading your drabbles today, and this one made me cry so I really need to leave this note here for you. Thank you. I watched Spirited Away ages ago when it came to America, and ever since I've pined for a proper conclusion, to when they would meet again, to when he would hold to his promise. And I like to think your story really is the ending I've been waiting for.

oh, this is so poignant and lovely! i love the little details you put in here, like, "she never takes baths anymore, only showers," and how she picks up the trash. and i love how you say that she grows up and grows old like they're such simple things, that don't need to be explained - and once you think about it, that's how it is, isn't it? that's all there is to it.

i really like how you left the end open to interpretation. with how you set up this fic, i think that chihiro died, but that's only my perspective. i don't know how you think it happened in your mind.
