There's still a major aspect of psychology he can still use for influence via hypnosis that is much less morally dubious than much of what Hermione objects to.

More coverage of positive and negative reinforcement.

Feelings of discomfort at unwanted behavior, happier feelings for wanted behaviors. Unearned punishments get a response of slight nausea and a minor headache; fairly awarded points give the warm sensation of sitting by the fireside after a full meal. Arrogance and lies earn slight genital discomfort; humility and the truth invoke emotions like what you feel following a hug. Hurting others causes an ache in your heart; helping them provides a sense of satisfaction and wholeness.

Good old operant conditioning. We use it on one another all the time; parents to get good behavior out of children, teachers to have better attention from students, etc.. Harry can just use it on a more successful level.

What I think Harry should really do? Work together with his friends to make a list of commands for what he wants himself to be like and carefully phrase them to ensure they work properly. Then hypnotize himself into suggestibility, which Hermione then uses to read off the list before snapping him back to consciousness. It would show him the fear that others experience at knowing that he could do anything to them while they're helpless, it would show his friends (and Hermione in particular) how much he trusts them, and would help give him stronger memory recall and whatnot to improve his performance in school.

Even if he doesn't want to do his "make everyone want to follow me" thing (which I think he should still apply on a smaller scale, maybe going for Minister of Magic; if he stays subtle he could make huge changes in the politics and attitudes of Wizarding Britain), staying ahead of the curve in magical knowledge is something he'll need to protect himself. Every class has something important to potentially offer for his safety and future;

The combat potential (and just use in daily life) of Charms doesn't even need explanation.
The ability to remake the world around you via Transfiguration is likewise invaluable.
Defense Against the Dark Arts is... well... it's DADA (not only vitally important, but with the skill of the teachers going down as everyone avoids the position because of the curse he'll need better memory and studying skills because of the self-study he'll need to keep sharp in it).
The ability to identify and protect against Potions can keep you safe, and they have a number of uses (especially in healing and enhancement) that spells don't.
History of Magic is something that as a muggle-raised kid he just doesn't know, and will not only help him fit in but also provide him with knowledge of the behavior and tactics of Dark Lords of old. Knowledge of laws and whatnot would be invaluable when the Ministry of Magic decides to muck with his life or if he is proactive about getting into politics.
There are enough freaking lethal magical plants that Herbology would certainly provide knowledge about possible methods of protection or assassination via plant, as well as magical uses for them like gillyweed.
RL folklore is chock-full of times when the position of the various stars, the phases of the moon, and the seasons influence magic and events, so even Astronomy would be useful for learning times of potential magical power that the rather superstitious Dark Lord might decide to act on.
Leaving aside all the other possible ideas for how it could be used, like creating spells or whatnot, the number of Horcruxes Voldemort created is enough to know that there's stuff worth learning in Arithmancy.
Care of Magical Creatures is an opportunity to learn more about the magical beasts that might be sent to kill him. Their weaknesses and vulnerabilities, as well as ways to pacify them nonviolently, would be useful.
Study of Ancient Runes-again, the sheer amount of ways in which magic runes could be used are mind-boggling. Even if you don't use them, knowing how other people would is invaluable.

Then there's the classes/extracurriculars that show up in supplemental material like Pottermore (and a couple that appear on the official Marauder's Map replica). Alchemy (elemental stuff!), Ancient Studies (teaches Egyptian magic, among other things!), Ghoul Studies...

I left out Muggle Studies and Divination... but honestly, even those could be useful. MS is horribly outdated, but it would let Harry understand what level of understanding wizards have about muggles (which is frankly hard to guess; on one hand, wizards have trains and radios. on the other, they don't recognize guns) which would be important for any legislation about muggles or muggleborns. While prophecy is only in the reach of those with the Sight, one could still learn _about_ it in order to better interpret and understand prophecies. Divination has to have something worth studying, or else the Department of Mysteries wouldn't have an entire section devoted to it. And then there's centaur... whatever.

Interestingly, Arithmancy can also be used to predict the future based on predictive algorithms. At one point, Hogwarts also taught Xylomancy, which is a form of Divination based on using twigs. Although when you think about it... if you look at the actual definition of Divination, it isn't just about knowing the future but about determining the unknown. Something like the Point Me spell, all sorts of medical examining spells, tracing magic... all these sorts of things would technically fall under the category of Divination, but are probably taught in Charms because they're just too damn useful.

Not that he'd be able to take every class like Hermione no doubt still intends to, but he'd at least be able to find benefit in every one of the core curriculum courses.

This is awesome. Amazing, really, you have some real talent! Keep writing. I was thinking of maybe doing something more with Hermione? Like, make her crush on someone, or something...?
Ghost Dragon Master chapter 1 . 12/14/2017
call me a pi, but if I had a madman after my life I would use this power to fuck every good looking girl in school. And get Snape to stop being such an ass.
Marie-S-Raven chapter 1 . 4/21/2017
I really, really like this story! Hermione is kind of annoying me though, with her acting like Harry is this morally reprehensible person though and that only she can know what is right and what's wrong. Two things to say to her on that. One, what makes YOUR morals any better than Harry's? Why is it that you think you know best, that you couldn't be wrong about something? There is NOTHING more dangerous than someone with power who not only thinks that they are doing the right thing, but that they are infallible! And two, all of your real objections seem to stem from your anger that Harry both do something that you can't do, and specifically can't do to him. Your first concern isn't finding out if what he's doing is really mind control in that it can't be stopped, which it isn't, but if you can do it to him! You are jealous! This is a lot like the Halfblood-Prince thing, and that whole year really put me off of cannon Hermione. That aside though, you're doing a great job! You've made a smart, engaging Harry and you clearly know what you're talking about with hypnosis. Kudos to you and thanks for writing! I can't wait to see more!

Mighty Bob chapter 6 . 5/3/2016
Been poking through several of my older bookmarks, a few of which include your stories. Or older stories as it were...and I hate to nag authors since you aren't obligated to write anything or your muse might be on strike or whichever...but I hope you come back to this sometime. The story was interesting and diverged in fun ways.

Probably gonna copy and paste this to a couple other stories of yours that I like and hope you get back to, my apologies if it comes across as spam. I really do want to see more of these storylines.
