I read the story half a dozen times and I still missed it.

I am developing a respect for people who proof read well.

Mirasaui chapter 10 . 1/8/2011
At last, the mystery of Liliwin's murder is solved and all involved either dead by their own actions or brought to justice. The unfortunate fact about capital punishment is the family of the criminal is punished too, suffering the loss of their loved one, innocent though the family may be. In the case of Eddi Rede, the custom of Welsh law provides, IMO, the best solution overall, for it gives chance of redemption to the criminal, restitution to the family of the victim and reduces the suffering of innocents.

A very satisfying ending to a great mystery story, I am glad I had the chance to read it. Now, one more mystery remains...whether John Boneth shall fall for his mother's scheming. Keeping my fingers crossed he will.
Mirasaui chapter 9 . 1/8/2011
So, two villains are removed by their own actions albeit Father Ailnoth did not murder anyone directly. Still, the people of the Foregate and Rannilt will sleep easier with their passing.

We see more of Rannilt and John Boneth's character here as the former speaks plainly of her strong feelings about Father Ailnoth and Ninian, aka Benet, and the latter keeps true to his word when he houses Ninian for the night.

I look forward to more and the hope that perhaps, Mistress Boneth's scheming might come to fruition ;) A lovely chapter, now on to read the next.
Mirasaui chapter 8 . 12/26/2010
One more to find and Rannilt shall have peace, or as much as a woman can have whose husband has been separated from her in such a violent and heinous way. If anyone is deserving, it is she. Thanks for the chapter, hope your holidays are merry and you have a blessed New Year.
Mirasaui chapter 7 . 12/19/2010
One thing I find about your writing is your story notes are usually as interesting as your chapters. I have never heard of "fenugreek", so learned something new today. Father Ailnoth definitely created a stir amongst the good people, sad how some in authority can make life so miserable for others. Speaking of misery, it is good that Benet was near when Rannilt was attacked...again. At least, the attacker(s) left another clue, though how much influence it will have on determining the murders remains to be seen. Another excellent chapter. Look forward to more.
Mirasaui chapter 6 . 12/18/2010
Seems as if Mistress Boneth has a little plot of her own going. It shall be interesting to see if her son falls into the net. I'm liking that woman more and more - smiles.

I must admit, I've read a bit ahead on Teleki_Blanka and shamelessly did not review. Blame the nearness of the holiday, a respiratory infection, and all around laziness. I'll try to rectify my bad manners ASAP.

Excellently done, look forward to more.

OPPS!

after Liliwin? funeral

One of the problems I have is the conversion between word and open office converts the possesive 's to a question mark. I appear to have missed one. When you have a chance you may wish to correct it and resubmit.
Mirasaui chapter 5 . 11/6/2010
So sorry for the late review, my ISP was down and once back online the computer did not want to co-operate.

I really enjoyed reading this chapter. Here you see the abbey at its finest, helping those in need. As always, your description places the reader in the midst of the scene and I, along with Rannilt, took comfort from Father Adam's and Abbot Adolfus' words.

Yet, how sad to think that Liliwin had to be guarded, even in death. What possible motive could raise such hate against him and his family?

At least, Lilliwin can rest in peace knowing that Rannilt and his child will be looked after by the Widow Boneth and her son, and that Cadfael and Hugh Berringar will do their best to see that justice is done.

I look forward to the next chapter and the eventual solving of the mystery.
stonegnome1 chapter 5 . 10/21/2010
This story is developing nicly, but I am waiting for someone to follow up on the clue of the rebec.

"Will Warden heard in Wat's Tavern that one of Mistress Emma Corviser's man had tried to sell Liliwin's rebec – or, at least one like his – to Sulien Blount,"

They spoke to Mistress Emma but not Sulien Blount and several days have passed, so there has been time for someone to go. A discription of the seller would be useful.

A suggestion or two:

"Besides, why she is busy with her godson, your mother cannot nag you to go and find yourself a bride," added Master Corviser shrewdly.

While instead of why, while she is busy.

She knew she had to be strong, for the sake of their child, in whom Liliwin's live would be continuing on.

life instead of live.

afraid for herself, afraid for her child, afraid for her husband's body… and not within reason, I would say."

Either not without reason or within reason, as written it suggests her fears are unreasonable which is not the case.

first rate story.
dizzy fire chapter 4 . 10/16/2010
You've got Ellis Peters's style down perfectly. I can't wait to read more, it's a real treat!
Mirasaui chapter 4 . 10/16/2010
Another chapter, and so quickly after the last, yay!

I applaud all the more John Boneth and his mother for taking such interest and care in Rannilt. So too, Father Adam and Cynric for the small but kindly courtesies that they give, re: Widow Nest's daughter and the decorating of the chapel.

Then there is Gregory, Emma's worker, and the odd company he keeps; John the weaver, former owner of the house and of Emma's business and Bertred, the best weaver of her competitor, not to mention others of a more unsavory nature.

As another review mentions, the plot thickens and I look eagerly forward to finding out more. Another quite enjoyable chapter, thanks!
stonegnome1 chapter 4 . 10/16/2010
One suggestion,if you think it worth the trouble.

Emma's smile at that was somewhat trained.

typo? strained?

The plot thickens.
Mirasaui chapter 3 . 10/12/2010
I do so hope you continue writing Cadfael, for I get the utmost joy out of reading these stories. So sad, the fate of Rinnilt and Liliwin, but at least they found kindness from John and Mistress Boneth, Griffin and the Widow Nest. And Cadfael, of course. My favourite in this was your description of the birthing and the superstitions of the women, the untying of knots and opening of drawers and doors, the use of rose oil and honey. As always, your characterization and detail are excellent, so your description of everyday life in the abbey and Shrewsbury. I can picture vividly each and every scene. A wonderful chapter, I look forward to more and the solving of the mystery.
