Hoppy159 chapter 11 . 8/4/2011
I'm really enjoying this story. The dream chapter, and this one, are pretty interesting. Although I can't see that we'll find out if anyone else may also have shared the dream besides Hikaru, Akira and Yongha, except for possibly Ogata. Sai really put him in his place during the dream. He's the character I like the least. When I was reading the manga, when Ogata confronted Hikaru in the hospital, I really imagined how the story would have turned if somehow, Sai was able to reveal himself Ogata in order to defend Hikaru. I liked your solution.
neveryears chapter 2 . 7/29/2011
"I have always felt that Hikaru was being overly paranoid about keeping Sai a secret."

There are plenty of ways to play out a disastrous reveal of 'Sai'. Including losing the tenuous friendship he has developed with Akira. They're pretty combatative to begin with when they're talking Go, and Hikaru being crap at explaining things properly is more likely to say something that's easily misunderstood. He had to work hard to get Akira to notice him again after their falling out, I don't think it's unrealistic to believe that Hikaru's insecurity and contentment with the status quo (Akira's noticing him for 'his' talent and not Sai's) would lead him to never sit down and hash it out with his rival. Although, considering Hikaru's personality, maybe he just doesn't want to go through the hassle.

Your perspective for the reveal was certainly interesting, but ultimately I found both Hikaru and Toya to be OOC in the scenes. Pleasant and fluffy fantasy though )

"On a related thought, I am also utterly convinced in the canon universe Touya Kouya has the basics of the truth by the end of the manga. There are at least two panels showing him in seiza in front of an empty goban with his opening move on the board. Waiting for Sai, are we? Sorry Kouya, not happening. He may not know the mechanics, but he realized the presence in front of him at the shinshodan was the same as the presence on the internet."

I always liked those panels because they made a lovely reference to a conversation Hikaru had with Morishita, about how he dropped the ball when it came to being Toya Koyo's rival. Maybe Koyo was waiting for Sai, or maybe he was just waiting for a worthy rival to challenge him, either way it was a moving little scene. I find it more pleasant to believe he's waiting for Hikaru to mature and challenge him in Sai's stead (which apparently was the entire point of Sai being on Earth). Whether he knows about Sai is irrelevant at this point in the manga, even Toya agreed after his match with Sai that it didn't matter who, in the end, played such fantastic Go, only that he wanted to experience more of it. If anyone can claim knowledge of Sai inside Shindo, it's either Akira (who probably just believes Shindo's a bit of a spaz, or a flukey savant) or Ogata (who was the most persistent of the lot hounding Hikaru's relationship to Sai).

Anyway, it was an interesting read. I read the other chapters but decided to review ch 2 since the central plot gets fragmented after this one. Thanks for writing!
