Now, *grabs large yardstick and blackboard* for more Phases Of Obsession's grammar lessons! Anything that has a type of speech, like 'mumbled', 'joked', and 'continued' would be a comma, but a quotation folled by an action, as in , '"Oh yeah." Maureen wrapped her arms...' would be a period because they (the quote and the action) are both complete thoughts, but a tag ('she said' 'he cursed' 'she whispered') isn't, so that's why it required a comma to connect it to the full thought (the quote) to make it complete...or at least that's what my writing teacher says. Yeah, I'm a grammar nazi.

I loved this! Great start! Both were wonderfully in-character and I don't think you truely need a beta, except I found one problem that you repeat.

'"No, Honeybear." She firmly stated...'~ Since it has a tag it would be a comma instead of a period, also on the 'She' it would be a lowercase 's'. You did it right in some parts. Just thought you'd like to know.
