I have been assured by a very knowing American of my acquaintance in London, that a young healthy child well nursed is at a year old a most delicious, nourishing, and wholesome food, whether stewed, roasted, baked, or boiled; and I make no doubt that it will equally serve in a fricassee or a ragout. :-)

I remember this first version of this story, but this one is even better.

I can honestly say I'll never look at the Marberry Shore scenes the same way again. You did a wonderful job making the reader really feel for the person on the other end of the gun. Truly beautiful.

Wow. Just wow. I have to agree with John234. This story is quite simply a pleasure to read. Well done with the descriptions and battle sequence. A fascinating look at a character that wasn't really a character at all. On a side note... Malya the Dust? That makes killing him at Barious about twenty times more meaningful! XD

Amazing piece, both in attention to detail and the fluid pace of the text. It was a genuine pleasure to read. Few, if any errors grammatically speaking, even spacing and intelligent use of vocabulary.

Very realistic, not the cinematic crap many fictions throw at the reader, but without straying into an analytical article.

What was great was how much you fleshed out the characters in such a short period of time. Leisel and Mendel had a couple paragraphs, at the most, but you knew exactly who they were by the end of it.

Having Varick shoot was an unexpected twist, and the simple display of the soldier's professional mentality was something I don't find in many pieces.

Definitely one of my favorites. Keep it up!

Nice explanation for the reason Isara was taken out. You brought us right into the head of the poor Gefreiter. As for stressing about OCs, I'd say don't worry. First and foremost should always be to do what the story demands. If you need OCs, use OCs. Just don't make them Mary-Sues or marry canon characters or abduct canon characters and-what, I'm not looking at any of our fellow authors here

Well, anyway, I got into this one a lot, very positive reaction to it, good Marberry fight (it's such an emotive setting, isn't it?). The sniper ace makes quite the character.
