Love you’re story about Bones and his friendship

Loved this behind the scenes look at Star Trek. Really loved where and how you ended this story. Loved the characterizations (Frank especially because it gave him some depth and motivation). Most importantly, thank you for not making this slash. For that you get my undying gratitude!

I loved this. It compliments your other stories in this series perfectly and the relationship ship between Jim & Bones is perfect. The on call segments added wonderfully to the story and I love your portrayal of Winona & Frank and that whole messed up relationship. I felt it was very realistic; Winona’s desire to take Frank back when she was sick and vulnerable, Frank’s inadequate justification and disregard for the trauma he caused and Jim’s interactions and feelings towards both his mother and Frank really developed the characters. I also appreciate how Jim doesn’t just open up to Bones. A guy like Jim wouldn’t be so easy to crack and wouldn’t want to talk about his past. That whole segment was my favourite. It was superbly done!

My only criticism would be the negative portrayal of medical personnel; I know Jim probably sees them as smug or apathetic, but they work gruelling hours and make huge emotional sacrifices because they really do care deeply. For obvious reasons they can seem a bit aloof, but most of the time it’s that or crumble and you can’t crumble when you have a ward of patients depending on you. Also, no half way competent doctor would fail to run a thorough check up on symptoms as serious as bloody diarrhoea, friends with the patient or not. I know it was just exposition to get McCoy and Pike communicating, but medical malpractice is extremely rare. I realise these things aren’t necessarily important and your story is one of my favourites, but as someone who works closely with many doctors I felt like they deserved better.

Well, this is certainly a refreshing and welcome portrayal of Jim and Frank. Not that anything excuses domestic violence, especially towards a kid, but he’s almost universally depicted as the evil bad guy who haunts Jim’s nightmares. It’s a nice chance to see them interact now Jim is grown, obviously with his own anger issues, without Jim becoming a helpless victim again. It felt a lot more real this way.

Hi, good story so far. Just one thing in this chapter hospitals aren't actually like that, the doctors and nurses aren't smug they are often worried and sad but not smug. They dedicate their lives to helping others, and when they aren't able to do anything believe me it bites. The reason they don't burst into tears when that happens is because they have to keep going for their other patients. Most if not all doctors experience burn out at one time or another during their career, and the number of doctors is plummeting because of it. Please don't make doctors or other hospital personal out to be the bad guys, without them everyones life's would be much more difficult.

I love how infuriating Kirk is in your story. I always felt Kirk was more than a bit of an idiot and you illustrate that well and your McCoy is just so wonderfully written. Totally frustrated and fed up with Kirk but not being able to let him die. I wanted to let you know how much I appreciate that you published it so I could find it. I’ve read your story multiple times and still enjoy going back to it when the mood hits : ) Happy Fanfiction Author Appreciation Day! I hope to see more of your work.

Love it. The moral technicalities Bones faces are something I never even considered before, so this was a massive learning curve. Well worth repeat reads.
