Rei's soul, after all, transmigrates to the next Rei, even if her memory only goes over to when it was last recorded. If she reconstructed herself from the part of herself that is in Shinji, then Gendo's plans would be completely ruined by virtue of never being able to get an obedient blank-slate Rei again. |
