This is a haunting story, tragic and beautiful.
Melira chapter 1 . 11/30/2017
Thank you for writing this beautiful piece! I was in a very strange mood before I started reading it, somehow melancholic, and your story fitted exactly. In fact, it made me feel better, so I'm grateful for that, too.
As always, beautifully written and characters on point!
MissDonnie chapter 1 . 7/25/2017
I just read this story...reading all the stories here. This one was great and made me cry a bit. I had a wonderful dog named Doc. I raised him from a baby, had to feed him with a spoon he was so tiny and young. Ten years later he had cancer and a operation was done, we thought we got it in time. A few months later I found a lump and we took him to the vet. This time there was operation, and I was there when he was put to sleep...there is so much sadness when you do that...it's like killing a family member. You handled your story so wonderfully. Sorry it took so long for me to read it.
Munkeyfump20 chapter 1 . 5/8/2017
Oh so sweet thanks for a very good read and sad also
FiascoWay chapter 1 . 10/22/2016
My goodness this was a beautiful story. Sweet and sad and poignant. Letting go of the horse as a way of reliving his loss of Charlotte. Simply brilliant. Lisbon's compassion at the end provides some much needed light. Thank you son much for writing this piece.

Touching, quiet, believable story. Sad event. And, yes, the Black Stallion series is excellent.

Heartbreaking and truly beautiful!
221b Baker Street chapter 1 . 7/14/2011
Wow. Obviously you have horses, as do I. I guessed that after reading Red Brick Road. Today, I just put off the decision to take my old dog out to the stable to be euthanized, along with another young horse suffering from severe navicular. I watched Marley and Me with my hubby last night and realized that my old girl is not quite telling me 'it's time', yet. Anyway, your story made me cry. Thanks for that. It feels good. Chat soon, B-street
Purple Piggie chapter 1 . 7/7/2011
I snooped your page because I am enjoying your story "Red Brick Road" so much, and found this little gem. You had me crying while the horse was put down. I needed 2 kleenexes! It felt like Jane's little girl was dying all over again with the horse. Your descriptions were quite accurate too, which I am happy to see. I am a big fan of realistic medical/veterinary depictions. The only part unrealistic for me was how low the vet's fee was for all she did. Sorry, I just couldn't let that one little detail go!
