This is a very sweet beginning. Hope you continue with it.

Very nice: might be time to take a list of common items/images and create short fictions for them all. I would like to suggest the following (for everyone to comment on: I might even try one or two) in comparison to the common "You smell like cherries":

A. strawberry shakes from Remy's;

B. chocolate chip pancakes (or happy face pancakes, or "thanks for the great sex last night" pancakes);

C. The lousy coffee that used to be featured in the 12th precinct;

D. Whatever had been left in the refrigerator by Ryan at the 12th and now had formed a life of its own; and

E. Something from Kate's styrofoam pyramid in her apartment (must be consumed by chopsticks); and, finally,

F. Whatever was REALLY in Martha's wine glass (not necessarily wine).

Just my suggestions. And, I would maybe add to your story a hint of baby powder? Just a thought (I don't have any kids, but love that smell). Again, nice story, and you did ask for suggestions.
