Thank you for this story. Although a Jisbon fan myself, I could always see a spark between these two if perhaps more elder brother/younger sister sort of thing.
LouiseKurylo chapter 7 . 10/22/2018
You set it up well. Alas, I still prefer canon's pairing. I think Van Pelt's relative youth and innocent optimism (canon again) would make their pairing less likely, particularly from Jane's perspective. OTOH, who am I to say? Maybe they would have been a refreshing source of solace for him. Worth pondering.
LouiseKurylo chapter 5 . 10/22/2018
Fine description of both the physical consequence of being shot while in a kevlar vest and the psychological harm of really, really understanding mortality. Her mortality. You bring emotional fidelity to what could easily be a hackneyed fan cliche. Very nice.
LouiseKurylo chapter 4 . 10/22/2018
Jane absolutely deserved what she dished out. It would be torture working with someone that ... invasive. Jane has too much good in him (as well as usefulness as well as tragedy as well as being a colleague) to simply dismiss as a jerk. But there's no way to comfortably coexist with someone so determined to mess with her mind and emotions.
LouiseKurylo chapter 2 . 10/22/2018
Excellent. Van Pelt indeed would be the person to notice that Jane's behavior was on so slightly different. His couch adjacent to her desk. Her tech savvy. Yes, she would have called him on it (now quite appreciating the depths to which he would go in search of vengeance). Yes, Lisbon had been out of line asking her to stall the suspect with sexual suggestiveness. Yes, Van Pelt would have felt sullied and ashamed. Not a connection I would have made and so all the better for a new insight. Thanks.
LouiseKurylo chapter 1 . 10/22/2018
Wow. Jane and Van Pelt aren't my usual favorite pairing, but there was ample substance for differences and insights. Van Pelt was smart, talented, ambitious and blighted with model good looks in a male-centric, sexist field. Jane casually, cruelly laid bare something dark and painful in an interlude involving her first choice of a psychopath boyfriend. Of course, her righteous indignation at his stubborn rejection of religion and the paranormal more than returned the pain when she challenged him about his family trying to speak to him when he wouldn't listen.

Terrific to happen across new insights in a well-loved, well plumbed show. Thank you. And now I get to read more chapters. Great.

I always liked this series.
Your thinking and your dialogue are so smart.
Always thought grace had a lot to her. You’ve revealed it.
Thanks.

Oh noes...
Aeidhryn chapter 4 . 1/15/2012
Mm, that was evil.

But still, none of us have forgotten the old yin and yang lesson from season 1, have we?
Aeidhryn chapter 2 . 1/15/2012
"I disagree, I'm a girl who can wear many different hats," she wanted him gone, "Go away Jane. Go do what you need to do."

Oh, I am eagerly awaiting the day that Grace grows a sting/spine...in the meantime, I get to read. And it's lovely.

She's soft and nice, yes, but you can't get mind-screwed like she was without getting a little bitter, a little out for blood.

Just got to work up the courage and have a proper target...

But that's me thinking as a manipulative author. As a human being it's very good that she's not doing anything off.
