Very sad but a great ending

Hiya scribeninja. Somehow I had never read any of your stories, but makesmyheadspin is constantly singing your praises on twitter so I had to check out your stories...and I wasn't disappointed. This story is beautiful!

I was pretty much bawling reading Jeremy's letter. I really thought you weren't going to give it a happy ending which would have been devastating!

I love how you do the POVs, similar but different views.

*Sigh* I love that ending :) But damn what a roller coaster. I think you got me like 4 or 5 times. Gran, Jason's letter, a few things with Eric, and of all things, Sookie telling herself that "everything is going to be alright." God. But it was really cool to see things from her point of view, especially after he'd already returned. Well done! :)

First, thanks so much for responding to my other review and sharing some more insight into Eric and what he was going through. Now reading Sookie's POV makes me understand him wanting to get away after trying to remember so much. What I don't understand is him shunning her for two months and not wanting to try to get to know her. He decides after reading his letters on their second meeting after his amnesia that since he can't remember, asta la vista? Not even wanting to try to get to know her especially knowing he was engaged to her? Totally understand the frustration when he did try, but not digging the Eric who wasn't even going to try in the beginning. I have so much respect for the men and women of that generation and all the sacrifices they endured. You certainly captured all of that. Don't get me wrong, I totally love the story and your writing is amazing. This just happens to be one story that I wasn't so enamoured with (amnesia) Eric. Loved Sookie. She was wonderful throughout it all. Thanks for sharing and more importantly for being so receptive to my reactions to your story. Hope to read more from you soon.

Such a sweet story! There's something about WWII stories that always gets me. The cause was noble and the sacrifices great. My father was blown up on D-Day, and even though he lived, he spent a year (!) in the hospital recovering. SO much pain and yet such love afterwards. Knew the story would have a happy ending and loved the red ribbon as the catalyst to regain his memory. Looking forward to more stories! Thanks

I love this Sookie. I know I told you that when I read the Ribbon, but it magnified about 10-fold with this. She is so amazing. I wish I had half her strength. First of all she finds the love of her life, gets engaged and then watches him go off to war. That's hard as it is. She loses her brother (*sobs*) and doesn't get to say a proper goodbye to him. Then the love of her life comes home and doesn't remember her. Talk about a double fucking whammy. I love her for her courage and her strength to let him go, and not keep him tied to her when it isn't fair to either of them. It just amazes and wows me and I love it.

You nail the essence of this time so well and it just makes me smile so much.

It's so sweet when she's asking Gran for permission and then bringing Eric in to meet the family.

Their courtship warms my heart too.

Jason's letter... *bawls* Oh god you know that kills me.

"So even though I won't be there to see it, get married and give me a bunch of nieces and nephews. Tell them about me, will you? Make up some big war hero story that they'll pass down for generations."

It's completely adorable to me when they go to bed together for the first time. Her innocence and nerves are so spot on.

I'm sure I cried when I read The Ribbon, and I cried in this one too. I loved it though. It was great. It really hit home with me right now, as I just reconnected with someone from my high school who went off to war and is now in a wheel chair. Definitely a good reminder that things can change in the blink of an eye. You're a fabulous writer and I always look forward to reading your stuff! Thanks so much for posting!

This was so sweet. I think this version made me even more teary than The Ribbon did. (I might still owe you a review on that one.) You know I hate angst, but you write it so well, that I'll continue to read all the angst you throw at me!
