So sweet...I love that Near was friends with Mello and Matt...until the whole successor thing came up. But at least L actually does care for Near, and Mello still does too. I think that's an interesting afterlife, and more probable than the heavens and hells various religions think up; all the dead can do is remember the living just as the living remember the dead. (I like to blather about life and death a lot; I'd write a thesis on it, but no one would give me money to write it, and just...lol) Actually kind of reminds me of a fic by Tierfal called Dead People, in which L Light Matt and Mello can actually speak to Near. And GevanniNear, so sweet too! Ahhhh, fluffangst- ever heard of flangst? Great stuff, great stuff, really. I love this. You are wonderful for writing this.

One nitpick, though: how is it that Light can interact with any of them? Since he used the Death Note, he shouldn't have gone to either Heaven or Hell after he died.

I liked the family and friend parts a lot. Ad how Mello reacted to Light being there; it seemed to me that Mello figured since he was dead now, he didn't need to hate Near anymore. He could focus on taking care of him instead.
