I got so much joy reading this little ficlet. I shouldn't be smiling after reading a sad story, but I am. I only finished this mission yesterday. I've just joined the Dragon age bandwagon and immediately and irrevocably fell in love with Varric. How could anyone not?

The writing here is lovely. Ander's description really encapsulates the horror of the situation. Varric's actions just make this story perfect - I could absolutely see him comforting Hawke like that. And it would work, too. He's so cuddly! Plus Hawke and Varric are bros (gender irrelevant). Anyway just wanted to say thank you for putting a little joy in my heart.

...oh my. now this is how it should have been in the game. no one sees their mom like frankenstein and not freak out, badly at that. you did a great job on this scene.

This is truly a lovely story. I appreciate how you've written Varric's comforting of Hawke. I've read many fics that touch on this subject, but I really appreciate your version. Thanks for sharing...

How beautiful.

I particularly like Anders' musings at the close-his wondering what exactly he is seeing between Hawke and Varric. It's subtle and touching.

Quite descriptive, I like it. I always love reading stories, chapters, whatever, that are from a diff character's POV and not the main character.

Good job on Hawke's pain and Anders reactions.
