This is an amazing story. I love the way you portrayed the chracters and how Rory, despite his unsure feelings toward The Doctor, dropped his insecurities and vowed to help him.
Great job -

ValkyrieH chapter 1 . 9/11/2012
This is a great, simple little fic about Rory letting his guard down a little around the Doctor. I'd say you did a decent job with your first one-shot. Nice work!

Love post-eps, especially when they deal with h/c that's been brushed under the rug. Thank you for this - when I saw this episode, it made me wish for exactly what you've done here. So glad I stumbled across it. My only complaint is that there isn't more to enjoy. ;)

aralana765 chapter 1 . 11/1/2011
This is such a cute story! I love the relationship between Rory and the Doctor, especially after Big Bang. It's so funny how Rory is always competing with the Doctor, and the Doctor doesn't even care. But even early on, they had an understanding, and I think you captured it magnificently.

Hawki chapter 1 . 9/24/2011
-"He almost mentioned it to Amy but he stopped himself; he was half afraid she'd laugh and half afraid she'd tell him it wasn't his imagination."

Almost a LOL moment, but either way, credit where credit's due for the line.

-I can't outright call this a criticism, because it doesn't really detract from the fic. However, I've noticed that Rory is practically always called this, without any alternation with common nouns for instance (e.g. "the nurse" or "the human"). Not quite sure if this is a 'rule' of writing to alternate between terms, and since it doesn't feel like an issue here, as stated, it's not really a criticism. Still, thought I should bring it up.

-Nitpicking aside, I found this to be well written. Each character is at their appropriate level of development in regards to the timeframe that they're in (timeframe as in personal timeline). Amy's her perky self, able to assert some authority over Rory by virtue of her traveling in the TARDIS longer than her husband. The Doctor is...well, the Doctor. Rory, I would imagine, might have been the most difficult to pull off, but you did it well. He's far enough along his character development to not be hostile to the Doctor (as seen in VoV, in regards to Amy kissing him for instance), yet not experienced enough to be completely 'with it' in regards to the TARDIS's layout for instance. It's a tricky balance (is it?), but you pulled it off quite well.

All in all, good job.

Your understanding of the characters is flawless! I liked the way you wrote the Doctor's insistence on hiding his pain, and Rory's insistence on helping him. Every sentence just rang so true.
tokonatsu24 chapter 1 . 9/3/2011
So cute! Usually I read long stories, but I felt like giving this one a go, and man was it good! Sorry for kind of stalking you, but yeah, good stories are hard to find and so far I've loved all of yours so I can't help coming back xD Anyway, I really enjoyed how you focused on the relationship between Rory and the Doctor in this one, I feel like it's overlooked in the show far too often. Also I like how you've shown a bit of a weaker side of the Doctor here, after all he isn't invincible so I always find it interesting seeing how he acts when he has to depend on others. But yeah, great stuff! Thanks again for another fabulous story! :D -Tokonatsu

betawho chapter 1 . 8/17/2011
That's a nice bit of character work. I like the observation that "He'd accused the Doctor of causing the people around him to take risks, but at the end of the day he and Amy were fine and it was the Doctor who was hurt." It's easy to forget the Doctor isn't indestructable.

And I liked how this reinforced the Doctor's age. He seems like such a spry young chicken, but he's actually extremely old, and sometimes it shows. Beautiful job showing that here, even if you didn't mean to.
