(review for the entire story) Easily one of the best Gardevoir/Ash fanfictions I have ever read. The language is beautifully descriptive and cinematic. (Honestly though, I expect nothing less than perfection from Asura94) Azura94 has a knack for "showing" rather than "telling." The poachers really do seem like bad guys; they swear, they happily engage in pokémon abuse, and they have no regard for human (or pokémon) life. They were easily the most fleshed-out villains I've ever seen in fan literature.
The development in Selena and Ash's relationship is paced wonderfully; the buildup feels entirely organic and believable. Selena is unafraid to assess the nature of her relationship with Ash Ketchum; at one point she asks herself whether he is willing to take her as his lover. Although Selena isn't afraid to "take things slow," her telepathic powers (stemming from the fact that she is a Psychic-type pokémon) allows her to see the true nature of Ash Ketchum rather quickly.
The "climax" of the first part, where Ash and Selena burst into a paroxysm of unbridled passion is easily the best example of this. Although this interaction does border on erotic, it is beautifully restrained. This is entirely fitting: Ash is only ten years old and they have just professed their love. (In my opinion, more fanfiction should follow this standard.) Everything about this couple oozes fireworks. Even the nicknames that Selena and Ash give each other are unique and heartfelt: "beautiful flower maiden" and "handsome aura knight."
The epilogue's thinly veiled allegory to the civil rights movement is refreshing. Ash and Selena's legal battle for the right to marry is especially relevant in today's times. Syrena is a wonderful addition to this ensemble: she serves not only as a bookend for Ash's adventures, but she represents the product of a very happy, stable marriage. The society that Syrena grows up in is wonderfully supportive of her lineage. Normally we'd expect some conflict or some dragging, angsty sideplot, but Asura94 spares us of this. I believe this is an excellent choice storywise; not only does Asura94 want to show us how far society progressed in the Pokémon world in 10 years, he also wants us to focus only on Syrena's special day. I like clean, streamlined storytelling.
There are some spelling and grammatical errors, but these can be easily overlooked. In addition, it seems as though many readers overlook the "10 years later" line. Perhaps renaming the epilogue to "Epilogue - 10 years later" may add some clarity. All in all, "Loving you Hero" is a wonderful read. - #xxswagmaster420
