Ah, that's why they go to space. :)
PineNutPesto chapter 16 . 5/13
XD Brilliant
PineNutPesto chapter 14 . 5/13
Aww :)
PineNutPesto chapter 10 . 5/13
Oh, the creature was causing the insecurity? Interesting. Some sort of space vampire? Why would it confine itself to this area if ships avoid it? Shouldn't it hunt?

The lighthouse idea reminds me of an episode of Babylon 5 in which a deep space exploration vessel strayed off the guiding beacon in hyperspace and was going to be lost. B5 sent a series of starfighters to form a chain to guide them home. The last in the chain was disabled, but he fired repeatedly in the direction of the way out until they understood.

I suppose Peter has just helped initiate the ruin of the First Officer's career. On the other hand, the First Officer was indeed emotionally compromised. It is a major handicap to be on a mission with an ally and not have the maturity to pool resources when you're both in trouble.

The Enterprise is here! It's like an episode!

Thank you for clarifying the timeline, by the way. In my head I knew that the Enterprise crew must also be older if Peter has graduated the Academy, but I suppose I was envisioning them as their 1960s selves in the 1960s ship. It's good to have more information. :)

Poor Peter. He recovered so well from Deneva that I sometimes forget what happened. It would make a sort of sense for him to be afraid of the dark (at least with other stressors in place, as they are here), given what the solution to the amoeba crisis eventually was. Well conveyed.

I'm amazed anyone has the courage to go to space, given that, as you say, there is only a thin membrane between them and almost instant death. I suppose we do things that have about the same risk here on earth as well, like flying in airplanes, but I know that I try not to think about it too much while I'm up there.

Thanks for posting!

It begins. :)

Thank you!

Riley? Kevin Riley? (I admit I didn't know who David Bailey was without looking him up, but I know Riley.) It'd be nice if he'd gotten his step up. He's described as "a fine young officer" and I'm sure he deserves it.

Wow. Soral is so loyal. I am amazed, as well as a bit flabbergasted, that he would offer to torpedo his own career to accompany Peter to serve on a human ship, where he'd be the outlier.

Thank you!

I dislike drama as a rule, but I like this complexity. It evolved naturally. And it's a good point that Amanda no doubt underwent some serious stress when she chose to spend the rest of her life among Vulcans. I hadn't made the connection.

I really like your Peter. You took a character who was unconscious for most of his episode and built him up into a three-dimensional young man any mother would be proud of. Thank you. :)

I know how that yeoman feels. When you have no power, stay out of the way of those who have it. XD

I guess I should've foreseen that people would object to Peter serving with a Vulcan ship, but somehow prejudice always blindsides me. (Even in real life. :/)

A good beginning! I'm excited for the rest. Thank you!

"That's a perfect example of IDIC. We use totally different words, but we communicate the same idea. We just saw something once-in-a-lifetime. Soral will tell you in his scientific mumbo jumbo that what we saw is important, unique, and quite rare. I will tell you that I have never seen so many colors in all my life, that I felt my breath leave, and that space seemed to light up around the ship. But in the end we can sum it up in four very different words that mean the same thing: We saw something amazing."
This. This right here is an Amazing quote. It fully encapsulated both the meaning of IDIC and it showed the personality of both characters. I Love it. Thank you so much I am honestly so happy and grateful I got to read this.
