In the best possible way: this story made me ache.

I've read this a few times through from beginning to end. And at least one ever few chapters, there's an actual hollow, desperate, painful ache in my chest where I want everything to be fine and there is the just... moment where everything doesn't go fine. And then it's emotional and it hurts for everything to be emotional and... you roll with the emotional.

I literally have put this review off for actual years because of how many feelings this fic gives me. Everything just hurt too badly, even when I was reading updates contemporaneously, so how dare I roll in now?

The game already is ache-ful. The end is basically the most unsatisfactory satisfying ending ever, with all the moments that we know paid off somewhere along the line but never got to see. But then you roll in with this and say "yeah, realistically? that's not how this goes. actually, all of this has so many repercussions that it's not even funny so here is this story". This is the post-awakening story that we all needed but didn't know we wanted. The ache is real.

I literally cannot explain how hard my ribcage implodes on itself whenever I think about this story. Ufff.

The moment where Monkey and Trip interact on the bridge but don't actually jump into each others arms, let alone really touch like we all want because us shippers are insatiable? Yeah, that's an ache in and of itself. But the moment where Monkey helps Trip out from the bottom of the bridge and then she won't let him touch her? More and stronger ache. When they won't talk to each other because they both think they are dangerous and are looking out for the other one? Every OC and the plight the world Pyramid caused? Just... I cannot express how physical this feeling is. This isn't a play for a review. This actually physically hurts me and I blame you in all the most flattering ways.

I'm so happy this happened to me. No sarcasm, no agendas, just genuine gratitude. You gave this to me and made my lungs ache as my heart beat against them. Like, literally, for all this time, the only word I could associate with this fic is "ache" and that's what I wanted to pass on to you. It's amazing and I love it. A million times am I grateful.
