I don't know if it was your intention, but this particular haiku stood out for me among the many you have published for a number of reasons.

By the title itself, followed by the subject of the haiku, we are probably led to think it is about certain fire-bender, namely Azula. She is the one that is seen using the ability the most and because of it fans closely associate it with her. Yet the lines in this haiku cause the subject being talked about to mean anything related to lightning-bending. This haiku could simply recount the process of separating energy and redirecting it or it could mean the physical drain on the user or it could mean the physiological state of the bender utilizing this ability. To control an imbalance of energy, the "punishing rod" of raw chi, one must have control over themselves. If you cannot control yourself, you cannot hope to control the chaos of separated energy flowing through you.

Take that into account and it can apply to both Azula and Zuko too.

And this is what I like about this particular haiku. At first glance the reader assumes it is about Azula (or perhaps this only me assuming it was about Azula) yet if one was read closely it can mean anything related to act of bending lightning itself. It could even be a poetic comment on the benders that use it. Thats the beauty of haiku I think: it can mean so many different things to a person despite its brevity and simple subject matter, conjuring up different feelings for each person. You are given images and emotions and your mind fills in the blanks of what you think it is talking about.

Azula and the act of bending lightning are one in the same here, (at least in my opinion). I won't go into detail as why that is though. Just know that this haiku made me stop and think, so good job with this one.

I found this quite depressing honestly, but I suppose that's the atmosphere you're creating. The last line is particularly poignant.

Interesting parallel drawn - I hadn't actually made the connection until now! They both are so alike, yet the dynamics are so different it makes it rather poetic. Great stuff!

Wow, all the haikus are pretty good I love them, but my favorites were "The Southern Air Temple", "The moon", The Avatar State", "Toph" and specially "Tragedy" and "The Fire Prince Return"
