Guest chapter 1 . 1/7/2016
This was absolutely lovely. Also I know this has little to do with this story but I saw some reviews about how Odin could not have made Loki look Jotun, that it was Loki's magic. I'm rather sick of people trying to enforce their interpretation of that scene on others. This is fanfiction and a wonderful story at that. It was never explicitly stated and between the fact there it is not explained in the movies and the fact artistic license is allowed ( we can have Loki falling like Thor or dating Darcy but Odin cannot be the one to disguise Loki's heritage? Talk about double standards) ...people should just let each author make the rules in their individual stories. In other words, I completely adored the story and the way you interpreted that scene. This had such beautiful style and diction! I'm extremely sorry for the rant while reviewing an excellent story but I have seen similar comments frequently I could not contain my annoyance any longer.
Hekka chapter 1 . 8/28/2014
But Loki's aesir appearance cannot be just spellcraft of Odin. Otherwise, why would he not have made Loki look more as his with Frigg son (to me Odin just awakened Loki's own ability of shapeshifting)? And Loki did not seem that the wounded after his meeting with the Hulk and Co. In fact, he should heal just like any of the aesir.

I love this story, I love everything about it. And the characters . . . it feels as though they act the way they would. (If that makes sense.)

Again, beautiful story. All the stuff you write captivates me. And made me wish Loki deserves a better ending

Isaha chapter 1 . 10/2/2012
Oh God. Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU ! I loved that. I've always felt for Loki, no matter what he did. In this story, I *was* Sif, mesmerized just as she was, exploring the real him. I'm originally more of a Thor/Sif shipper, but it was great how deep a relationship you created for Loki and Sif. Again, thank you.
wbss21 chapter 1 . 9/22/2012
And this is just as wonderful a continuation as "Bid the soliders Shoot". I love the exploration here of Loki's own complexes and, really, his great insecurities. I always found that one of the most gut-wrenching moments of the film, of course, when Loki finally realizes what he is, and you see the absolute confusion and then fear on his face. What's terrible about that is that Loki is normally such an assured and fiercely intelligent character, that seeing him lost like that really drives home just how bad that moment is.

And you can't blame him, since he was brought up in a culture, around people, who regard what he is as monsters and vile beings worth nothing. As something meant to be slayed and destroyed. You understand then from that perspective where Loki's unwinding and desperation at the end of the film comes from. He's been brought up, literally, to believe what he is is a villain, an evil creature, etc... And the part in this story where Sif realizes that, and she grows sick at the thought of her's and Thor's and even Odin's ignorant remarks regarding the Joutuns throughout the centuries, and understanding then better what Loki must have felt, the absolute horror he must have felt as discovering his true heritage. It's just heartbreaking for both of them in that moment.

Loki's not an easy character to write, and especially, I think it's difficult to write him actually being vulnerable and keep him in character, despite the fact that he is, because he's always ten steps ahead and his mind works so quickly, etc... But again, you manage to do so incredibly well. He's normally so guarded, and able to keep himself an unreadable, blank slate sort of. But here, his discomfort and uncertainty with himself and everyone else's reactions comes through beautifully without breaking the character, or making him sound unlike himself.

You accomplish this in a beautiful way at first by showing him as just falling completely silent after saving Sif from the Doom bot with his powers of ice, and describing how afterwards, he wouldn't meet her's or Thor's gazes. You show the audience his shame of what he is without having to say it, and that's just excellent writing. And also how you describe him being a shadow to the team. You get the very real sense that he feels utterly out of place among them, that he doesn't fit in at all, and is definitely the odd man out. In a way, like he's always been, and that in itself is pretty heartbreaking.

And then of course, his absolute trepidation when Sif asks him if she can see him as he really is, is conveyed again with this great subtlety, without overdoing it. He's so scared that she's going to reject him, that he's going to find disgust or fear or repulsion in her eyes at the sight of what he really looks like, and again, you can't blame him for those fears, considering how he grew up. You just feel immensely bad for him in those moments, as he's watching her so carefully.

And Sif's wonderment at him is just perfect. How she finds herself transfixed and really, almost in awe of the way he looks, and that's just what he needed to see. And to feel from her. That she isn't repulsed or fearful of him at all.

Still though, the part when he asks her why she's still there is just heartbreaking. When he says that he keeps wondering when the time is going to come when she wakes up and realizes who it is she's fallen asleep beside. It just shows, underneath it all, how insecure and afraid Loki still is, how low his self-esteem still is. This in spite of his incredible intelligence and talent and power. He doesn't really believe in himself. And it's just so sad.

But you really couldn't have ended it on a better note, with Sif able at last to convince Loki to, if only marginally, embrace at least a part of who he is, when he keeps the marks along his face and hands. It seems like a small thing, but as Sif herself thinks, it's actually a tremendous step, because before, Loki would have been too disgusted with himself and what he was to ever allow the markings to show. So it shows an extraordinary step towards Loki being able to accept himself, and hopefully not caring what anyone else thinks.

It'll be really interesting if you choose to continue on, and at some point maybe show Loki's return to Asgard. You could really show and create a great challenge for him there, a great conflict, as it doesn't seem likely that the Aesir will be very accepting of him at first, if at all. And it wouldn't surprise me if they taunt him relentlessly for the markings on his face and hands, and harass him. That would be a challenge both for him and Sif alike,to have to deal with that level of ignorance.

So again, here's to hoping you write more about these two and their journey. You've got yourself a loyal reader in me, that's for sure! Thank you so much again for sharing your wonderful talent!

Sepsis chapter 1 . 6/14/2012
I just LOVED this. The whole thing and idea! How the others reacted to him in the end, how Sif wanted him to accept himself and of course when he decides to show what he is.

"He was silent for a moment. "These," he covered his other hand over her own, sandwiching her. "Simply proclaim my worth as an enchanter. Frigg explained them to me . . . more will appear as the centuries continue on and my powers grow." He lifted her hand up, letting her fingers come to rest against the markings upon his face. "And these proclaim me to be the heir to the House of Laufey, and first son of Jötunnheimr. It is not what I am comfortable with, as you say . . . so much as it simply is what I am."

That was beautiful! :)
