They spent 18 years training to protect the idea of the princess for their honour and their image of the Princess (minus secret plans if she turned evil), but now they are protecting someone they would die to save even if she were a mere peasant girl because everyone loves her so :-)

Can see it now, the grand concert to welcome the various foreign dignitaries visiting to celebrate the return of the princess. The murmurs of surprise when they see that the pianist has a hook for one hand...and then the exclamations of surprise as he hurls an axe to start the music :-D

...Disturbing, but yeah can see how he would need therapy after everything he has gone through too. You do know this is a Disney film, right? :-P
