Aside from the fact that it was recently revealed that the tenth division in fact had a captain before Hitsugaya came into the picture, I think this story is very well written. Not overly dramatic as some angst stories go, but realistic enough that you can actually picture it happening in canon.

Years later and I realize I'm still not over Gin's death, not completely, and maybe I never will. But I'm happy for stories like these, because at least his legacy lives on long after his demise. (I haven't forgiven Kubo yet for letting Gin be butterfree'd, but anyway.)

Fascinating piece. I've always wondered what happened between Rangiku and Gin to have caused their drifting apart. I really liked your interpretation of her character, particularly how she grows strong as an individual rather than an attachment. But of course, she and Gin can't completely remove each other's existence.
