Poor Arthur and Merlin (but mostly Merlin). You did a very good job writing this story.

Just shows how under appreciated Merlin is and how Arthur doesn't treat him better! I'd like to see Arthur try to change his ways towards the end.

It's certainly an interesting theory. I can definitely see your point in some instances where the banter and humor is overdone and could hint at a darker turn of things. It does require a bit of stretching of both Merlin's and Arthur's characters to get them to fit in this mold though. Thank you for posting this rather thought provoking idea!

I agree! Arthur can really piss me off sometimes with how he treats Merlin and at times like that I can't stand him anymore. and I sometimes wonder if he deserves Merlin as a friend at all, I mean he doesn't often sacrifice much for him and he's certainly the one getting a lot more from this relationship(a WHOLE lot more, what does Merlin gain? he has to carry such a heavy burden all by himself, lose people he loves and go through traumatic experiences, grieving quietly by himself, all the while having to take all that shit from everyone, ESPECIALLY Arthur..sheesh)even if Arthur doesn't know about all he's done for him, he already knows enough to treat him better if you ask me, and I won't be surprised if he'll just manage to disappoint me again when he learns of Merlin's secret.. that said, the writers can be quite abusive towards Merlin sometimes..it makes it all really dark and depressing sometimes and really makes you want to just reach out and into your screen to hug Merlin tightly, he really looks like he needs a hug :'(

and you defiantly managed to make the fic emotional cause it made my heart break..so good job on that.
