Reviews for Doomsday
SuziH-J chapter 49 . 9/4/2018
Absolutely brilliant story. Sorry for reviewing earlier but just couldn’t stop reading this.
I loved how you wrote Owen in this, not wanting to leave Ianto when told to, and staying with him the whole time.
And no on to read Doomsday Post-Apocalypse.

Thanks so much for all your efforts for sharing a great story with us!

This was so gooood. I never realised I how much I wanted a story that covers the aftermath of doomsday until I started reading this. And you really thought about it in depth and considered the problems people would face when clearing through what was left (especially with the alien creates they encountered). I liked the change you made with Ianto's storyline and how this affected his meeting with the Cardiff team although I also feel for him and all the trauma he had to go through. I honestly thought he would never get out of that conversion unit!

Oh and you captured all the characters relationships and personality perfectly. You have such a gift and thank you for sharing this with us. Can't wait to read the sequel! Also discovered your 'time to be bleed' story and since I absolutely adored that storyline and all the juicy angst it produced I look forward to reading your take on it!

First have to apologise for the fact that this review will come out as a big block of text burin reviewing from the phone. I have to say that, I totally enjoyed the story. The characterisation was brilliant and I could really hear the voices of the characters in it especially Ianto's and Owen's. Jack was a bit off in a couple of times while around Ianto but I'll add this to the stress. I have to compliment you on being so brave as to write a story with so much of Suzie's character involved, as we didn't see much from her before she god mad not many people do it. And certainly even less manage to capture her personality so well. I listened to the Suzie centred audiobook 'Long time dead', read by Indira, a few months ago and your Suzie sounded very close to what she was in the book. You settings are also very accurate, as for me is very important as part of the realism and believability of the story. I live in London, but think that I would have trouble to do this without some map research as I rarely go East/North side. So you either know London well or do your research, which is something to be recommended. You wouldn't believe how many people don't care about the details like this. Once I read a story where the author put gates around the water tower in Cardiff. When I told them that I've recently visited Cardiff and there's no gates, she said that she doesn't care, she just invented her own alternative Cardiff. Now I know that this is a sci fi show but, it still irritates me. Ok, rambling over, on with the review. It's really interesting to see how dynamics and events had changed with this alternative take of pre season one Torchwood, is interesting to see a more confident Ianto, one that doesn't take shit from anyone. And especially at how his relationship with Owen had changed now that they have met under different circumstances. They are friendlier towards each other and still kept in character. Your Ianto is strong, witty and resilient, however he is still scared and week at times, just like the Ianto we see in the show. At first I thought he was whiny but then he headbutted a cannibal. So, what I'm saying is, he keeps a wall around himself , he keeps going and he will do what is needed, it still doesn't means he isn't scared or enjoys the field work. Jack, Gwen, Suzie, Owen and Tosh, they enjoyed it Ianto didn't but he still did it when necessary. Just like your Ianto. You humanised Jack in your story, bravo! Many people write him two dimensional, just the flirting with everyone. You showed that despite being arrogant, he was scared form the responsability and crushed under the burden. I think what we saw in series one is a Jack who isn't very good leader , someone who has the potential, a potential we saw in series two, but someone who isn't ready to lead yet. He was still lost and needed someone to lead him. And your story showed this greatly. Another good thing is that the story is team centric and not focused only on a couple of characters. Great inclusion of an OC who could have become an irritant but instead enhanced the story. I'm so glad that Ydris remembers and we will see him again. Good characterisation of Gwen as well. I like the subtle changes you have made by putting scenes like the one with Gewn and Owen during 'Cyberwoman' in this story and replacing Gwen with Tishiko as we won't have Cyber Lisa around the Hub. I have only a couple of minor conceits. One is having too much of Ianto thinking inside the cyber unit. It was repetitive at times, slowing down the story and taking out the immediacy of Ianto's situation. I think, that one sumarization about his thoughts on how much he was thirsty or how much he misses his family would have been enough,as we see quite a lot of repetitive thoughts. Also maybe it would have been a good idea to cut off some of their inner thoughts. They give away too much information of what they are thinking. If it's not first person point of view is good to leave the reader to sometimes wonder what other people are thinking as we cannot read them. Ok that's it I think. If I think of something else I'll PM you.
sd4ianto chapter 3 . 1/23/2014
I know this is long done but I couldn't let this pass. So what happened at TW 3 is what basically happened on the show, even the kiss. Except you left the best part out, that is the life giving kiss to IANTO! You left the poor guy in London with Lisa. (Sorry don't like Lisa.)
DarkwingDuckie chapter 49 . 3/16/2013
Amazing! Everything a fanfic should be and more! I am so glad you had decided to do a sequel and am skimpering off to start reading it now. This whole fic is just brilliant! I can't say enough how much I laughed and cried throughout! How can I say anything in this comment that will even start to convey just how much I enjoyed it? So I will end here with my inadequate words and just say thank you for writing it.
DarkwingDuckie chapter 48 . 3/16/2013
So I know I haven't read for some time but I am catching up now and this is just as wonderful as all those other chapters. Love it! And I cant wait to crack open the sequel!
Iris Wood chapter 31 . 3/5/2013
Owe the hero and Jack with his life giving kiss. I always felt that that should have been one of his "abilities", then maybe Ianto would not have had to die in CoE. Poor Ydris, captured by the adventure of Torchwood, only to soon ?die? at its hand. Hm.
Iris Wood chapter 26 . 3/3/2013
I am trying to decide if you have made this story to act as part of canon or if it will be an AU. Ianto still needs to save Lisa somehow and I an not imagining him being able to save her past a building full of UNIT and Owen/Suzie. It was a nice touch to have Martha come by. I loved the Jack struggle and inner monologue about the Oncoming Storm. I always felt pitty for Jack and situation. In my head I like to believe he felt something for Ianto, but the realist in me believes that he was "in love" with the Doctor and would never be happy with Ianto. No Gwen in this picture at all, though I have read a couple good threesome fics with Jack/Ianto/Owen or Jack/Ianto/Andy.

Also got thorough enjoyment about bringing the Brigadier in on this. Him and Jack are part of a special club after all :)

Oh, and my apologies, I thought Ianto and Jack were going to meet sooner (or at all), hence my comment on the slash. … Did not want to assume you followed that couple or liked them together. Er, my bad, technically it is not slash if they are together in Canon, as slash implies the coupling is not the normal behavior/circumstance/couple for the character.

OK, enough from me, I have rambled enough.

Once again, Awesome fic, great job writing it, and great characterization.
Iris Wood chapter 22 . 3/3/2013
This exchange reminds me of an audio I saw at the library. It was Spock from Star Trek having a debate with Q, the omnipotent godlike being from Next Gen. They debated about logic, the universe, and the flaws with humanity. It would be interesting to outlogic a Borg also, though they did end up recognizing individuality. Must read that Dotor Who crossover with Star Trek Next Gen: the Cybermen verses the Borg.

I love your fic! I always wondered about what they found in Torchwood Tower and the recovery process. Looking forward to the upcoming Jack/Ianto interaction: there I have said it. I love the details and the interaction with UNIT and the "recruitment" of Gwen and Andy.
Iris Wood chapter 4 . 3/2/2013
Good job capturing the emotion and action of the scene, especially the Cyberman conversion scene there at the end.

MUST READ: The best researched, most accurate and in-depth story about the Mega case so far. I support this #Aaron Swartz petition. Say no to US prosecutorial overreach. "Internet luminary" gnat sheds light on MPAA tactics
Village-Mystic chapter 49 . 12/26/2012
Well, I like that everyone except Suzie really likes Ianto. Torchwood - home of the 3 way. Anywho, I also like that you have Jack contemplating getting a mental health professional or two for the Tower survivors.
Village-Mystic chapter 48 . 12/26/2012
Good interpersonal drama here.
Village-Mystic chapter 46 . 12/26/2012
Exciting and informative. Not sure if it was this chapter or the previous where you had Jack thinking he wanted to hug Ianto - that was new-ish to be happening so early or just from chemical/hormonal comptability. I liked it, though.
