God, he had shitty judgment. It called into question every relationship he had. How could he ever be sure anymore? – aww! Poor castle!

She waited but he said nothing more. She moved and leaned against the wall, sank down next to him. – Love this.

He lifted his head again. "I seem to be a pretty crappy judge of character." – Awww!

"What the hell, Beckett? How did I not see that coming? Did you see that coming?" – I love that he asks her that.

"I hated her from the beginning," she admitted. "But not because I thought she'd betray the country." – I love that she admitted that.

"I know it was Russian. You speak Russian." – Oh man.

She wished she could prove to him that this woman, this dead traitor, wasn't worth it. She didn't deserve a moment of his grief, not a second more of the regret and shame she saw lining his face. – Aw, I love that she wants to do that for him.

Kate couldn't imagine that was true. Because the longing hurt, and having him, finally having him, would be a relief and a balm to them both. – Aww, yay!

He'd planned on drinking a few glasses of scotch and sitting in his dark study. – Hah, aw, poor guy.

Beckett's eyebrow quirked. "It sounded friendly because you're not a girl." – Haha.

"Did you get in a cat fight with Sophia?" he gasped, tried to play it up just to improve his mood a little. – LOL!

She was watching him, and she wasn't quick enough to wipe the look off her face. He stood rooted to the spot for a moment, caught by it, a look he didn't know but might just have seen in the mirror before (love?), and then found his fumbling feet and put her coffee down in front of her, took his seat. – Awww!

"So. I'm interested in hearing more about what she said to you. What catty things she said to you, specifically." - yay! I’m glad he asked.

She huffed, laughter or indignation he couldn't tell. "You were that when I met you. I don't have trouble believing that." He lifted his eyes to look at her, a little surprised actually, but she was already shaking her head. "No. That's not fair. You only acted like an asshole. I don't think - I'm not sure you really ever were one, not deep down. Just putting on the rich, playboy act." – This is great, all of it.

"Next time someone from my past crops up, I'm listening to you." – LOL, poor guy.

"No," she said, shaking her head. She sounded fierce, like she was fighting him, fighting for him. "You just have a trusting heart. And there's nothing wrong with that." – Awwwwwwww!

"Trust me, and you'll be okay." – Awwww!

Her wrist slipped out from under his grip, her fingers taking its place, tightening around his hand. He saw the shock of fierce and unwavering possession in her eyes. "Castle. I won't let anything happen to your heart." – Oh, oh! That was beautiful! Awesome job.

That. Last. Line. Omg. This is amazing.

Fantastic. I love how you capture lost-little-boy Castle as he is left alone with the body, and then show how that is translated into his self-doubt. Letting Kate step up her willingness to fight for him at the end was a nice touch as well. I agree with others that this was much more satisfying than the denouement of the actual episode.

Oh wow, I haven't been able to watch the second part yet, but loved reading this! Now I can't wait to see the ep!

Great angle. i can definitely see Castle having doubts about his own judgment when it comes to other people's characters, and trust. Glad to have fics like yours that spend a little time investigating the deeper end of the pool while the episode gives us mostly the surface view. Good coda to Linchpin.

Well good grief, this was pretty much totally, absolutely perfect.

I loved, it, the doubt that Castle would have to have in himself and his judgement, the way Kate admitted she hated her from the beginning (I hated her from the beginning, and I was THRILLED she was evil)

And the part about Castle thinking Sophia was being nice when she was talking to Kate - perfect.

This is so great because while there was no change in their relationship, they still talked about what happened, there was still a moment of real, solid emotion between Castle and Beckett, which is what was missing from the episode, I think.

You are now officially writing faster than I can read, I think.:)

That last line came out both demanding, caring, and jokingly. I definitely like the possessive/demanding part. Don't know if that was intended, of course, but this was great nonetheless. Duh. It's you! Thank you!

One liners, you just have to love them. Yours there, that one at the end, was good. Liked it. Saying it without saying it, you know? Where you going for that, or do these things just kinda, occur to you as you write?

Nawwww! Cute Casketty goodness in the breakroom over cups of coffee - that's what I love in a fic 3 And damn that Sofia/Sophia to hell I say! No one plays with our Castle ... except maybe Beckett, but we all know she's getting there - baby steps :)

Keep Castle's heart safe. Stop mine.
